Rear Tub Issues.

Got the rear end of my chassis finished and painted.
Got the tub back on with new Britpart support members bolted to
the tub floor.
At the rear cross member five of the ten bolts have no holes to
pick up on because the alloy has rotted away.
I'm going to put doubler plates behind the alloy and some extra
bolts either side of the tabs.
At the front end of the tub, the alloy had rotted away
completely where the chassis tabs were.
Someone had made bolted on spreader plates to get round this.
My solution is to fabricate two 11" wide L shaped steel brackets
which bolt to good metal on the tub.
Made them bolt on to the outriggers too.
So I can shim them for height adjustment.
Now the issue.
The alloy has completely rotted out on the OS where the sill
rail brackets attach.
Like a 4" x 3" gaping hole. :eek:
NS is better but not much.
AFAIK on a 1970 vehicle with seat belts this area is structural
and must be good.
BTW the seat box is nearly as bad.
Now what I'm thinking is do I try to patch up the tub, or do I
fabricate a steel extension from my own new tub mounts, to
support the sill rail.
How have other people got around this ???

Got loads on my phone.
Going to have to get a grip on photo bucket
Generally digital things don't like me and vise versa.
If it rains tomorrow I'll get it sorted and stick some photos
up.

Nice work on your tub.
Mine is far worse than that.
But funnily enough the tub still looks quite presentable when
fitted.
A bit ragged above the rear cross member but only if you look
close.
A few small holes rotted in the load area floor.
I have Nu-Link mats (possibility original with the vehicle)
which will hide that.
I have considered riveting in aluminium plates where the sill
rails mount.
If it were an older vehicle without seat belts I would have no
problem with that.
Going to try the seat box back in today and see where everything
needs to line up.
That should give me a location for the sill rails so that I can
maybe construct some sort of steel bracket to tie the rear ends
to the chassis.

Bits4Landies do good panels & bits. I've had floor panels
and stuff from them perfect fit.
They do seat box repair bits

I'm going to bodge everything for now.
Well bodywork wise anyway.
Funds are running low and loads of jobs still await.
My seat box is one of the worst I've ever seen.
Even the alloy rail that runs across the rear edge has rotted in
half :eek:
Battery acid fumes I suspect.
Bodged back together by a PO with steel strips and lots of pop
rivets.
My plan is to force the poor thing back into service one last
time.
Hopefully when I'm back on the road I'll pick up a better one
and restore that.
