POR 15 is actually quite good if you use it like they say and it
is not in direct sunlight (as it goes white!).
A small tin does go a long way but it also doesn't keep once
opened so you can buy a multipack of small tins.
I did all my fixtures with it on my rebuild including the axles
- these were just gone over with an angle grinder with a soft
disk then a wire brush, followed by the Metal Prep and Ready
stuff. I gave them three coats of POR15 black and they still
look OK seven years later. I don't think Hammerite would have
achieved that?
I have also used Bilt and Hamber Hydrate 80 followed by their
epoxy mastic paint on a carriage underframe. The paint is very
thick so you need to buy some xylene or two pack paint thinner
to use it. It does make for a very hard finish, though it is
also expensive (especially for a carriage, even only a 31' six
wheeler!). I did find the solvent quite an experience stuck
under the underframe - quite intoxicating without the
'sweetness' of cellulose paint!

Nope, you don't the £15 was for the frosts chassis paint, not
POR 15

I have been using a chassis black from manor paints which is
pretty good, nice finish, better than the new hammerite. Looks a
bit pricey here as I got mine from the trade shop in Shipley at
about £10 per litre tin, if you search you may find a dealer
near you?

Been using wilkos black gloss for ages (the cheaper one). Goes
on very well and gives a decent finish, nothings started rusting
yet and I live in a seaside town with a salty atmosphere

You using a primer/undercoat or just brushing straight to metal?

A slightly more helpful reply on rustoleum - I used it on an old
big gay boingy I had for a while - painted anything that looked
rusty with it (chassis, snorkel parts, spare wheel carrier etc).
Only prep was some wire brushing to get rid of the bubbly rust,
then slapped it straight on. Only had it for a couple of years
after that, but no rust came through and still looked good.
Would recommend some cheapo disposable plastic gloves and old
clothes though as it don't half stick to skin/anything else...

I'll be chasing that up online, local suppliers seem quite
expensive.
I've got three more outriggers and the rear X member to replace
in the next week or so.
Rustolium would appear to fit the bill.
Might go for the Wilko option for some of the small bits like
pedal boxes and the air cleaner.
More of a cosmetic job than corrosion protection
Just finished replacing the OS footwell today
Ended up daubing it in cheapo zinc oxide primer, didn't really
want to but it looks like rain soon.

Just found a 750ml tin of Combi Colour on eBay for a stonking
£25 plus £6 postage.
What a robbing cunt! :finger:
Too busy to search further now.
Hopefully I'll have better luck later on.
