       Smoothrite Substitutes

Anyone know of a more reasonably priced alternative to Finegans
       offerings?
       Just used the last tin.
Not impressed by £14 for 750ml at Wilkos ( special offer price
       at that )
Tried the real bargain bucket stuff off eBay, OK if you want to
paint something and flog it quick.
       Otherwise starts rusting again immediately.
I'm looking for a smoothrite performance ( yes, I admit that
it's good stuff ) but at a reasonable price.
       Any suggestions please folks?

All of the current Hammerite/Smoothrite offerings are shite
IMHO, ever since they changed the formulation about 8 or so
years ago it hasn't worked anything like as well as the original
stuff did. It'd be worth seeking the advice of a proper paint
suppliers and see what they recommend.

       Chassis and brackets mostly.
The engine bay side of the OS footwell I'm in the process of
       fitting today.
If I can ever get the Bastard to fit!
There is one product that I rate quite highly.
       Aldi Metal Care Paint.
       Cheap and very good.
       Better than Finegans stuff.
But they only have it in about twice a year as a "Special Buy"
       :banghead :banghead :banghead
Tried Aldis website today on the off chance.
Fucking thing don't like Android won't open properly :banghead
had to close the tab before I was overcome by the urge to stick
a hammer through the phone :banghead :banghead

       ???
       News to me
Don't really know much about their products except for the
       rattle cans.
Used the stuff extensively when I worked at GKN Autostructures
to bodge up dodgy paintwork on Boingy chassis and Aston Martin
       subframes.
Never seen any brushing paint - I'll do a bit of research later
       on.

I've used the brush on stuff for years - does a lot better job
than hammerite in my opinion :)

       Por 15 system?
Frosts do a decent chassis paint and primer of their own,
       pretty cheap - £15 a tin ish I think

IIRC you don't get a very big tin of POR15 for your 15 smackers.
Yes if I was starting with a shot blasted chassis and bulkhead
       all ready for paint.
Then it would be worth laying down some cash on serious
       protection.
But as it is I'm painting over old primer in places where I
can't get in with my linishing disc.
Yes I know that isn't brilliant but it's much better than
flaking old paint with rust under it
