109 S3 Dual Circuit Master Brake Cylinder

Right, I'm trying to get to the bottom of my shonky brakes - a
system bleed didn't resolve issues, the two rear slave cylinders
have already been replaced, so as it's my daily drive I'm going
to bite the bullet and refresh the whole shebang.
My current port of call is the MBC.
I'm trying to work out what I currently have, the number
stamped on the side is GIRLING 74660213 which according to
google is LR part # NRC6096.
       So a few questions:
       Is that correct part #?
Does this cylinder come only with metric fittings or could it be
imperial (I don't want to buy the wrong one)!?
Finally, are any of the aftermarket ones any good? The genuine
are £264 in VAT from LRseries :O !
EDIT: The reservoir is held on by roll pins so this makes it
       definitely a metric job?
       Cheers

       I have a Lucas / TRW (OEM supplier) NRC6096 that I fitted 6
years ago, and it's been fine. Cost me less than £100, and
interestingly on the box it says it's for the Series 3 109, and
for both the Santanas. And yes, it's metric:
       The old one:

Don't have a photo of the new one, but it was obviously
       identical - albeit not rusty!!!
       The details on the box:

What is wrong with them at the moment? Replacing stuff wholesale
rather than identifying and correcting the root cause of a
problem can be an expensive and time consuming carry on.
99.99999% of "issues" with series brakes, particularly LWB ones,
are down to adjustment, not anything else.

i'll agree with glen on the difficulties of lwb brakes, each and
every time i replace the brake shoes or have need to adjust them
       it becomes a ballache
adjust them carefully, take it for a test run, return and adjust
       again, test again
back and adjust again etc' etc'
just occaisionally i get them correct on the first attempt, two
years i've had this headache and it usually turns out to be the
rear brakes are the bigger pain than the fronts, eventually i
might get the hang of it
one thing i keep meaning to do when i remove the drums is paint
little arrows on the chassis to remind me which way to turn the
       snail cams

First issue is having to double pump the brakes every time I
want to stop, bled the system properly and no improvement, so
has to be MBC seals I reckon. There's a sharp dive to the left
under braking - which is most likely adjustment, but I'll get
the MBC sorted first and go from there.

Brake pedal needing a double pump is classic symptom of
       mal-adjustment.
       Get an assistant.
       Jack a wheel up.
Get assistant to pump brakes on hard and hold them on.
Tighten adjusters on the wheel that's in the air gently until
they won't turn, then back off two clicks.
Repeat for the other three wheels.
       That will sort your problem.
       Promise.

Finally got round to this today, started with front right. Wheel
just kept spinning no matter how far I turned the adjuster. Took
drum off and found a load of oil inside and on pads, piccies to
       follow.
Checked function of adjusters, all fine.
Pumped the pedal with drum off, seemed that only rear shoe was
moving. Neither seemed keen on returning, had to push the shoe
back down by hand to get the drum back on when rain stopped
       play.
Also noticed fluid whooshing into the reservoir on the MBC when
pedal was pressed - which point to shot seals to me.
So, new MBC on order, will get some new shoes as well. Only
obvious source of "oil" was front swivel seals, so adding those
       to shopping list as well.
Anything else I might have missed that's worth doing "while I'm
       there"?

More likely hub oil seal and the land it runs on than swivel
       seal.
Are the wheel bearings correctly adjusted too much play will
       kill the hub seal.

When you say bled properly do you mean the G clamp method?

Concerning the oil fouling, what vintage is your front axle - is
it a late one (which it will be if it is contemporary with the
       MC)?
The reason being that the later swivels are fitted with oil
catchers, slotted stub axles and drilled backplates to keep any
oil passing the hub seal away from the shoes. It is possible to
fit these incorrectly and prevent them working as they should.
