       Tdi in a day...

Don't for a start!, I'm half way though the job but 300 miles
from home. Two of us working like mad putting in the hours and
it's tough, hit afew snags on the way, the biggest was the
clutch, wouldn't let the engine slide back although it's all
lined up, for some reason the slave cylinder wouldn't return
back so the clutch wouldn't engage tip crack the bleed nipple.
The exhaust hasn't been to bad used the SS system I had made for
the prima and passed it over the chassis rail between the
footwell and the support bracket then under the bulkhead out
rigger to pick up on the back half, much better than between the
       chassis and engine.
Just the cooling, battery, and air filter before the front end
goes back on, then home, 6 very nervous hours hoping it all
       stays together.
       Wish me luck!

Well we did it!, there wasn't time for work in progress photos
as the miday Sunday limit was to close to allow anything but
       spanner work.
I won't say that it's all done as I've a few jobs to sort out
but the main thing is that I'm back home without the need of the
       BYT.
Things to do, proper turbo pipe (no intercooler, will it be
ok?), cooling fan, find a series thermostat top cover (any
offers?) and sort out the hotch potch plumbing, fuel lines (need
new pipe work and clips), plump in the turbo boost gauge (not
gay as its from a spitfire).
What it can say is HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!!! If you driven a tdi
series on standard diff you'll know about the poke in the back
when you touch the throttle, and I mean touch, was worried about
blowing the turbo hose apart (cheap shit and totally wrong for
       the job).
Will get on with the jobs ASAP and post pics when finished.

I've been running mine without the intercooler for a good few
months with no problems... I'm on 3.54 diffs so could use a bit
more poke :-( towing is a bitch at the moment, so much so i
might go back to the standard diffs

I put a boost guage on mine, seems to run at 0.5bar but I took
it off the manifold, and though the specs say its somewhere
around 0.8bar max, thats measured tee'd into the waistgate line,
ie at the compressor. The charge cooling and extra pipework
must account for a slight presure loss but I've yet to move the
pickup to see by how much (and even then I won't know how much
loss they should have originally). I've been planning on
sticking some thermocouples down the hoses to see how much
       charge cooling actully happens.
Another little detail I've been thinking about recently is how
come vertually no factory fitted turbo diesel (including all
land-rovers) takes its air from under the bonnet? How much
difference does that make to charge temp, or is it only relivent
in africa? I think mine might soon be getting a series 3 heater
grill on both wings so I can experiment).
Unfortunately testing is suspended at the moment (as if the cold
wether and fact its always dark when I drive it so I can't see
the temp meter) as whilst injoying the performance of a Tdi on
standard diffs (to 50mph) I broke a halfshaft (Surprised it took
2 months!) and that wasn't an ideal time to find out the front
diff is nackered so its having a week off while I get the new
       diffs ready.

Been thinking about the diff thing, KAM do 4.1:1 crown wheel was
wondering as its half way between the two other if it would be a
       go compromise.
