Anyone we know?

Saw a Series 1 on Saturday evening in Darlington on the road
that comes in from Barnard Castle way.
Roof was off, bloke driving and young lassie in the passenger
seat, both waving enthusiastically.
Greeted by my flashing headlights and a big thumbs up.
Anyone that we know? I know Wavey lives in Darlington but I
don't recall him having a Series 1.

There are a couple of S1s in Barnard Castle (plus I know of a
couple of 1949 80"-ers, 'awaiting restoration' ie fucked)).
There is quite a tasty S1 which I lust after every time I walk
down The Bank (belongs to a young vet I believe?) which is on
the road so possibly the one you saw. The signwritten one
advertising Galgate Garage is still around, although no longer
at the garage, which is now a bike shop.
Do you ever see the silver 107 in Darlington?

The only 107 I have ever known of in Darlington is one that
looked pretty tired that showed up on ebay a couple of months
back.
That was a grayish silvery colour. Where are all of these
hiding?
It seems there are a great many tucked away that aren't members
of the local club, or this fine fora.

Definitely not me. The only LWB's I'm aware of are the
silver/grey one with canvas tilt on the back that used to live
at the bottom of my street.. (Never did manage to get a word
with the owner) and I bumped into a green scabby one at Low
conny a couple of years back and used to see if in passing form
time to time.
Only SWB I know of is the fire engine..

but then Bret ain't gonna have the roof off that and/or wave
enthusiastically!

Wonder if it is the same one as you mention from low conny. I
didn't get a good enough look to see if it was scabby or not.

Is that fire engine still working or is it retired/restored?
Certainly up until very recently - probably still has - a
factory in Newton Aycliffe has/had a mint S1 fire engine as a
site appliance. It comes in for MOT at the LR garage in
Butterknowle every year - often with just a few miles extra on
the clock!
I used to see the silver 107 around Carmel Road area??

That's preserved in Darlington Graeme. Im not aware of the S1 at
Aycliffe.. Any further info on it? Be good to track it down if
it is still local.
I know Thorns at Spenny used to have a series 3 that has
vanished off the face of the earth that's going back 20 years
though, as did the Series 3 that was at Perstorp at Aycliffe
around 1996ish. The only private Fire Teams I know of in
aycliffe are at hydro polymers as was, but they only have a
transexual van.

I'll ask about it next time at the garage. There must still be a
few about. A couple of years ago I saw a lovely 109 fire
appliance go past my house then past again going the other way -
driven by the MOT tester, so obviously in for a test. But from
where who knows??
