Sunny Jim's right - from what I can gather the previous owner
tried to do the right thing  It flagged up on the DVLA
system and they asked for an IVA.
However the previous owner has even offered to attend the IVA
inspection as he knows the history of the vehicle, which he
thinks might help in securing the reg no. so that's nice of
       him.....
A used chassis has been fitted and a used engine from another
vehicle also, hence the alarm bells at DVLA.
At least when it's through the test it will be properly
       registered for good!
Still like it anyway, so far :smile1

He must be out of his mind. NEVER do "the right thing" where the
authorities are concerned. Fuck them over whenever possible and
tell them nothing you don't absolutely have to.

couple of points really, someone mentioned viewing the rear
chassis to see if it was military, but would this be of any
significance if the chassis has been replaced?
just wondering what happened to the original vehicle which would
have had the chassis originally, is this still extant, could it
be the one with the registration now sported by this one?
bit of a can of worms really, but if everything can be
catagorised then it will probably come out in the wash so to
       speak, kind regards

Don't know what happened to the original vehicle chassis. Still
in the process of getting it on the road, few delays but we will
       get there.
on another subject, applied for a registration number for a
motorbike which I had lost the V5 and reg for. long story.
Anyhoo, filled the form in without the reg number but including
the chassis number. Bike is registered to me anyway.
       Guess what?
Unless I can supply the reg no, which they should have on their
records, they want the bike inspected!!
FFS seems the DVLA are just creating work, asking for
inspections all the time and charging you for the privillage.
Getting a bit pissed off with them now.
Then there's the DVLA debarcle regarding regestering my self
       build camper van, cunts.

       So what happened?
Inspection was on the 21st. What was the outcome?
surely if the chassis was from a different vehicle, then the
chassis number would be identifies and THAT is the identity that
the vehicle would get? Or is that too simple?
Re the "S2A Military 1 ton" that was the first Landrover I
owned, 1960's but first (civilian) registered in 1972. I was
always told it was a "1 ton" but was never sure what that really
meant (I doubt it meant it could carry a 1 ton payload, but then
the springs were as stiff as anything with no load in it) It
had the twin fuel tanks (filler caps under the seats) and the
       twin front bumper.

My thoughts exactly Dave. I'd be rare for the authorities to
pick up on anything like this so the PO must have instigated the
       process. Pure insanity.

unintersting update, never made it to the IVA as recovery driver
never appeared (since discovered you can drive it there like an
MOT) and now I'm busy working at sea so can't book another test
for months. Cancelled IVA and have a refund to
collect.......which I'd love to spend on a V5 from somewhere

The solution to your problem with the bike where you don't know
the reg is to get someone to run you a trade hpi check on the
       chassis number.
Trade hpi will cost the person doing it about £10, and will
bring back a list of all the reg numbers ever applied to that
       vehicle.
I did this when I bought my series 1, as it had sat off the road
since the mid 80s, then had it's original number transferred,
but it had never been fitted with plates with its new reg, so it
came to me with no logbook, and no indication of the number it
       was registered on.
