I really can't see why anyone would want to impound or destroy
this vehicle.
Certainly nothing about it hints at (dare I say it? ) a "ringed"
motor or the inclusion of parts from a stolen vehicle.
Just a Heinz 57 that someone has obviously enjoyed putting
together.
Now it looks like it will be sentenced to the curse of the Q
plate and paying road tax until the end of time.
Or maybe not.
If they change "historic" to a rolling 40 years (as has been
suggested) it could become eligible by 2054!
Mucho patience required

If it has an oil bath air filter it's meant to have loads of oil
in the AIR BOX. Might be worth you investing in a selection of
workshop manuals.

85ml isnt a lot at all. Think there's a fill line inside the
filter housing. Should be about a pint and half if memory serves

From memory one and a half pints sounds about right.
That equates to about 850 ml not 85
Which manual are you using?
I bet it's not the genuine Rover one

They are normal Non Military spring hangers and rear
crossmember, I only asked as it sits up well on the suspension
but it just looks like it has a good set of normal springs on.
If you put some Series 2 wings on it won't look at all bad

^^^I agree, or SIIa and 'Maltese Cross grill'.
In fact, there's nowt wrong with an SIII front end either, and
it would probably be the £cheapest option.

Any pictures of the spring hangers and rear cross member as it
looks like it might be on an EX military 1 ton chassis to me :-?

wagfinger Wash your mouth out. The military variant of the 109
chassis sometimes referred to as the "combat" chassis did have
dropped spring hangers but was not a 1 ton chassis, they were
still 3/4 ton. :rolleye0012:

Unfortunately the DVLA rules don't really apply that well to
Land Rovers. I see why they're there for monocoque euroboxes and
the like but can't see any valid reason why a used chassis can't
replace a rotten one. Somehow the PO has got on someone's radar
which is a shame, I'm sure there are hundreds if not thousands
of Land Rover running around on a used replacement chassis that
to the letter of the law should mandate them needing an IVA.

A quick check via the RAC HPI thing shows:
SSM 841T:
LAND ROVER,
1970
2296cc
So obviously DVLA have deleted the details for that registration
number!
There could be any number of reasons for it having that
registration applied to it as a 1970 vehicle legitimately.
It would appear the previous owner has made a rod for his own
back by changing it and telling DVLA!
