       Starting/Restarting problem..

So pheebs and me went for a short run up the road.. parked up at
the ambo station and nipped in for a chat.. 15 mins later and
she wouldn't go, just didn't seem to have anything in the
       battery to spin the starter.
5 mins later tried again before ringing for assistance and she
fires without issue spinning the starter well. She had a new
mahoosive battery and starter motor last month - battery is
healthy (but currently on charge to make sure)
Is it likey to be just bad earth? or is it more sinister?

I had very similar once, and it was a dodgy LT wire at the coil
       - worth a look?

Is that the big chunky coil cable? or the thin wires?

LT is low tension, the small wire.
Poor earthing is commonplace, my ambulance and 88 both suffered,
best option is to run a second earth from the battery -ve to a
distributor securing bolt as well as the chassis earth. Made a
       huge different on mine.

Had this twice, with different cars, but never with a new
battery. Problem was a battery fault that "disconnected" the
battery internally, but in both cases it "re connected" itself
after being left alone. Both times the fault looks like a flat
battery, or a bad starter motor or solenoid or a bad earth or
similar. The problem was very difficult to diagnose as the
symptoms cleared themselves when the battery decided to work
       normally.
The second car that developed the fault was easier to diagnose
than the first (because I'd seen the same thing before). The
only way I found to diagnose the problem was to check the
battery voltage. When the fault appeared the battery voltage
(without the engine running) dropped to six or seven volts but
without being charged etc it would suddenly recover to the
normal 12.5 and would start the engine etc. The "recovery"
seemed to take anything from a few minutes to a few hours.
Don't confuse this with the way a battery voltage will drop and
recover after a long session cranking over a non starting
engine, this would happen after the car had started and been
       driven normally and then stopped.
One other symptom of the problem was that if the engine was
running and the battery did it's "disconnect" thing then the
lights would suddenly get brighter and the heater fan would
start running faster (because the alternator would lose its
voltage control). Mind you on a LR this might not be a bad
       thing........
God luck in tracking down the fault

Start with obvious stuff first, LT connections clean and secure,
battery terminals clean & secure, earth connections clean &
secure etc. then try a battery test, have got a tester here if
       that's any help
Most likely cause is an intermittent earthing problem so get
       them clean and secure.

All sorted.. :) Its booked in to Teesdale Landrover again for
another rebuild - turns out the precision engineering place
wasn't precise enough to make sure the pistons and head
       matched.. bollocks.

Eh? What do you mean? Piston / head interference?

Piston to valve interference is a huge mistake for a shop to
make...... Was this a stock rebuild or are you trying to gain
some performance? More compression? Cam and timing? I would be
       asking questions?? :lightblb:
