Noel, the adjustment is dead easy. There is a sticky out bit
next to the selector rod that has a lock nut on it. Undo the
locknut, tighten the screw with an allen key and re-tighten the
locknut. I did mine back in 2007 and it has been fine since. The
killer hill is quite steep from a dead start out of a junction
in a dip. Visibility is not brilliant so you go and floor it up
the hill in case someone comes up fast behind you. I get to
third overdrive and then drop into fourth overdrive near the top
where there is a bit of a bend, then down hill again. (When it
is wet, I normally go into fourth, and drop the overdrive out).
You could actually see the lever moving back as you thrashed it!
I did try and get advice from RM without success, and the people
I bought it from in 2004 were no longer agents, so I just 'had a
fiddle' myself.
The serial number of mine is 04 004, I assume no. 4 made in
2004?

From memory the LR Genuine Parts price for one is over £1200 -
RTC8020 - I doubt there are any left, Craddocks had some but
they have all gone (Europe...?)

Ah, I wondered what that was for. As it happens I've been doing
some pre-MOT jobs to the 88 this weekend and have adjusted this
thing in a couple of turns, I'll see how it goes tomorrow.
My unit is 3008 although I'm certain it was purchased mid-2002.
Having a read of their website now they mention an "Italian
syncromesh", I'm guessing they've decided the Land Rover one is
a bit too firm in operation for many tastes - I just hope this
isn't another good idea that is less so when they go out of
production.
