Clutch Slave Cylinder

Hello All
Just a couple of things I need help with as losing clutch fluid
it seems Lost all gears last week clutch pedal went soft Found I
had no fluid in reservoir So filled up and bled the slave
cylinder It seemed better However whilst under there I noticed a
leak that seemed to come from were the slave cylinder fits in
gearbox So I tried to tighten but it seemed tight enough Still a
bit of a leak there and still losing fluid Is there supposed to
be a gasket there? Can't see one in manual though Also how easy
is it to put a new slave cylinder in What's the best or easiest
way as I have never done one before

There's not a gasket between the slave cylinder and gearbox
housing, sounds more like you've got a leaking seal inside the
cylinder. It's a bit of a sod to change and even worse to bleed!

As he said, there isnt a gasket there as there shouldn't be any
liquid at that point.

What series yer got ? They are more of a fiddly job than hard to
do. If a series 3 there is sometimes a shim the shape of the
flange that bolts to the bell housing.
These shims tend to stick on the old oil so have a poke around,
choice is yours on seal kit or new cylinder. All parts are
cheap.

Hi Thanks for replies so far
It's a Series 3 I will be putting in a new slave cylinder Got a
Bearmach one ordered Any tips to make changing them easy ?

No tip to changing but put the pipe in the top hole and the
nipple in the bottom one. Makes it a shed load easier to bleed.
Not sure if mine was right to start with but once that way
around twas easier!

Thought bleed nipple had to go at top So all trapped air would
escape ?

ooo I don't know. I do know it worked on mine. I gravity feed it
to get all the ole fluid out then bled it using an assistant!

Well spent a couple of hours this morning changing the slave
cylinder Fiddly and awkward Who's idea to stick it there Anyhow
all seems well Tightened bolts up just enough bled it and can
select gears Pedal is a touch soft but not gone for a drive yet
Will run it to work and back then probably bleed it again Quite
pleased as never done one before Also as anyone thought about
putting studs in like on the starter motor ? It might make it
easier when comes to bolting it back on

If no luck when bled again consider changing the flexi pipe.
Less than a fiver but worth doing, oh I did fit studs to one of
mine but cant say it was easier.
