205 / 55 / R16 tyres on a Landrover?

I can't visualise tyre sizes.
I have a chance of 4 Bridgestone 205 / 55 R16 tyres for free.
Are the any good for a series 3 SWB? or would they just be the
wrong size?

Why not get them anyway if they're free? Can compare to your
current ones then, you havent lost anything plus if they dont
fit you could always flog them on a certain well known auction
site ;D

I've got 750 by 16's at the moment.
So would these be smaller in overall diameter and thinner?

Dont know between metric sizes but if they're equivalent to 650s
then they are smaller. Im running 750 x r16s at the minute and
have a 650 as a spare (needs changing), its around 2" smaller in
diameter I think

Standard 205s are 80 percent profile. 55s on those rims will
look gay and silly.

Absolutely completely and utterly unsuitable. They are standard
size on Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astras . You'd top out at about
30mph and 6000rpm. Back to the drawing board.

Thanks. I shan't bother then.
Is there a website anywhere that describes the different sizes,
with scale drawings? As I say I can't visualise what the
numbers mean.

How about this as a guide...
From the left - 235/85/16, 7.50/16, 6.50/16 and 6.00/16.
A 205/80/16 will be roughly an inch wider than the 7.50 but the
height of a 6.50.
A 205/55/15 will be the same width ( roughly 8.5 inches) but way
down on the height - the tyre would be anything up to 5 inches
lower overall !

235/85 16 are what I run on the 109 on standard LWB rims. Very
well mannered, and (contrary to some opinions) sail through the
MOT every time.
