Fairey overdrive oil scavenge mechanism

Evening all,
Has anyone got a picture or diagram of the oil scavenge
mechanism on a late Fairey o/d? I was trying to explain to
someone how they steal oil from the transfer box, but he couldnt
get how it worked - and I'm not entirely sure myself. Some say
its an archimedes screw, others say its a series of little
scoops rotating around a shaft.
Can anyone help please?

I thought it was the Roverdrive that had the Archimedes screw.
Sure the oil can over time migrate between your xfer box and
your Fairey O/D when it's old and worn, but that's more of a
design consequence than a design feature.

I don't think I've seen a Fairey or Santana which was designed
to use transfer box oil :-?
As Doug says, the Roverdrive or Roamerdrive doesn't have a sump
and uses the transfer box oil - is that what you're thinking of?
Never seen a diagram or picture showing how it's done though.

I dont recall seeing one when I had mine off but the Fairey
Overdrive does have its own sump so cant see why it would need
to scavenge oil from the transfer box

Hmm I see, looks like I'm operating on a mixture of hearsay and
crossed wires then.
Basically, although my Fairey has a sump of its own, the level
never goes down even over hundreds of miles. By contrast, the
transfer box oil drops by quite a bit. Also, some years ago, I
was told that later models of Fairey has some sort of way to
scoop out transfer oil and transfer it to their own sump.
I gather that is bollocks, and that there is some other
explanation for things then?

Easy, the overdrive blows it's miniscule amount of oil out and
tops itself up from your transfer box!

Its a land rover, it'll probably be dodgy seals ;D Probably the
same sort of thing's happening as when the transfer to gearbox
seals go and the gearbox drains into the transfer box

Mine used to throw its oil out into the T/Box...
