RAF Museum - Hendon
By: Dave Date: May 12, 2014, 3:50 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday, I drove down to that London (no, I can't belive it
either!) to have a look round the RAF museum and a model show
that was on there too. I picked up Kev and we trundled off dahn
sarf.
It's a really good museum and we spent 5 1/2 hours there. The
main stuff I wanted to see was the WW1 stuff and so here are the
pics...

Yes, t'was a grand day out, wall to wall aviation history, -
spoilt only by certain scutterbuckets with their screaming kids.
:executioner:
Who was that little drummer boy...? :-?

Good set of pics, looks like a great museum to visit. To my
shame I've never been.
Those models of the Hitler Youth in the last pic - the one on
the left looks ok, not so the one on the right - looks barely
human.

It's bloody brilliant that place; I particularly liked the big
Avros and the Sunderland.

I may well be the only person on here that has actually flown on
a Sunderland! ;D

Your name was mentioned actually, as we were looking at this big

LOL, had a friend in Yorkshire LRC that used to be on them after
the war in the Far East I believe. He survived a crash after a
sister Sunderland blew up while in formation.
Apparently the bombs sometimes fell off the racks while inboard,
many were lost to that.
It is my favourite plane in the museum I have to say.

If this is your bag, you'll love RAF Duxford. In short RAF
Hendon but simply vast. From Concorde, [you can walk thru' it]
to the awe inspiring size of a B52, Duxford is somethign else.
It must have x 10 the number of aircraft and the bigger stuff at
that. The Yank section is amazing (near the size of Hendon on
its own) and the 1930s & 1940s stuff really inspiring. I know
for many of you with it being 'darn sarf' it's a bit of a trek.
My ankle-biter loves both of them. Whereas Hendon you can
liikely do in an afternoon, you couldn't fit a B52 in Hendon,
Duxford really needs the day - at least. Take the flask, your
anorak and don't forget your spotter book ;)
RAF Duxford... do it.
