What is a Rare Landrover leafer ?

The question is a simple one, what is a rare landrover....

To each of us rare means something different ,is it the fact
that it is a special development one, or just so few in numbers
or perhaps it came with something a bit different.
To me, a rare landrover is one that is on the road, as so many
are under going repairs and restoration etc... :lightblb:

Carawagons seem rare, but what is rare if that make's sense, and
should they be in Dunsfold etc...
As I' am no rivet counter, it is a little bemusing to say the
least as to what is Rare, and how far should it go to be
preserved. :loser:
This is because apparently my chassis is from a Rare Landrover,
and so should I treat it with white soft gloves or carry on
dragging it around lanes etc....
So what is Rare- Leafers only of course :lousyputer:

I'm not too interested in museum pieces so even if it is rare I
think it should be used.
I've got the remains of a series 2a TACR1 of which only 22 were
made so in that sense it's rare. It's not valuable though, so
when I rebuild it, it will be as a useable tipper.
Centre steer is rare and I might make an exception if I find one
of them in a barn.

SMOMOT and Buttercup.
Also, I have a proper early 109" Combat 2a. October/November
1961.... low chassis number, into Service January 1962. In a
thousand pieces like.....

Parksy has a good list of the really rare, a few others that
were made in numbers that mean they must be reasonably rare - 2a
Lightweights, 2600 made, 101s of any description 2500 odd and so
on. Certainly makes them "rare" in comparison to say S3 88s ?
I'd also agree with the "use it" logic, unless it really is
highly unusual. I find the whole polish it and look at it in a
shed idea about as logical as going to B&Q, buying a Hammer
Drill and putting it in a glass case on the landing...
Tonka spent Sunday pulling trees out of the river...

2.25 diesel station wagon.
Probably for good reason.
Although I do like the idea of the (certainly rare) forward
control 2.25 diesel.

:-? Umm Can of worms opened....
A great list from Parksy indeed, but if you had one, would this
just become a show car with the odd splash in the puddle
etc...If you bough one complete?
Some of them I had not heard of, Buttercup was a defo not seen
that before.....
TACR-1 is what started this off for me.. Mine just looks like a
series 3, because most of the body parts i had lying aboot, but
the chassis is a Tac-T, one of 15 ever made, and probably you
can count on one hand the number of chassis left..... But does
that make it rare , not to me, its just a good chassis with
extra bits on....If it was as is when it was made, then that
might be a it different :smilewide: or would it !!!....
Devils Reject has said the rare landrover is the one that left
the factory, and is still as it left the factory- untouched,
without the tinkering of each new owner- and in some ways I
think he is right..... :lightblb:
But the variety of one off's is surprising, as is the price
folks are willing to pay. :rolleye0012:

Completely biased opinion I know, but I consider Leo a rarity,
although not factory converted, it was done very well, a long
time ago.
It's not worth a mint, but I've only ever seen a couple of other
Series sprayers in the mags over the years.
