Stainless steel fuel tanks

I have a 1973 109 SW and it has a leaking fuel tank. It is a
Bearmach one and has been on the vehicle for about 8 years. I
had the original (or original when I bought the vehicle)
replaced by a cowboy mechanic who also used a Bearmach one. It
was of piss poor quality and leaked within 2 weeks. This one
was also Bearmach and has rusted round the seams so I'm looking
for either a different make or a stainless steel one. Does
anyone make s/steel ones and has anyone any experience of them?
All info gratefully received.

The only stainless/alluminium tanks I have seen are made for the
serious off road boys. Usually mounted out of harms way in a
tray back or similar. Some of the kit car makers make tanks to
suit their vehicles but cost wise you would buy a good few
standard tanks for the outlay.

For the last 8 years I had a Britpart one; the paint held up
well, but I noticed last week (just prior to an MOT Dmmy spit)
that it was leaking at the seams. I fitted a replacement this
afternoon, not sure of the make but it came from Dingocroft in
High Wycombe. It was certainly easier to install than the
Britpart effort, which I remember required the fillers adjusting
with a hammer to get it to fit.
As Divie says, aluminium ones are available (not sure if 109
flavour though) but sit down when you see the price (for example
an Allisport underseat one is the thick end of £400).

I need to replace the passenger side tank on my S2a...it leaks!
Is it a simple job? Both tanks fill from under their respective
seats, so there's no convenient filler tube to connect.
Just got to track down a suitable tank, or get this one
repaired...

Probably the easiest tank to replace. The only bit that might
be a sod is getting the rear fastening out as it's tucked away
inside an outrigger. If yours hasn't been touched for a while
then I'd put a load of releasing fluid on it well before you
attempt it, because if you round off that nut things can get
interesting.

Theres chaps on the LRSOC forum that make nice new tanks for
series 1's not sure if the later S1 tanks are the same as the
S11 tanks, cant remember.
But yes I paid £350 for my ss tank for my 80 this time last
year.

That's spot on advice from Doug. I had to chop the outrigger off
the 109 as that fixing wouldn't let go, as it happens it needed
replacing anyway but it'd have been a bit of a shit had it been
a good one.

I've got a stainless underseat tank sat on my garage floor I
bought from someone on the S2C forum... it's a home made job but
is nicely done! It'll get fitted when the Britpart one on the
88" lets go...
If you search around you should find places who make stainless
or alloy tanks - I would even think the old leaky one would be
good enough for them to copy the main dimensions and hole
locations etc from.
