A copy of the original Goodyear Traction Mileage Extra Grip -
MOD fitment on many landrovers. esp Lightweights in 6.50. That
howl they make is the soundtrack to my youth !

I used to have a set of 265/75-16 BFG mud terrains on 8 spokes
       on my old 109 V8.
did have long mili shackles, but didnt really affect turning
circle (109 isnt great anyway so not a worry)
they wern't noisy, but I never got stuck across the fields or at
       tesco!

Running 265/75/16 on mine, as they are on modulars the offset
makes up for the loss of turning circle works out about the same
I didn't notice any difference. get some brought!!!

Comes down to personal choice, same as most things. :smilewide:
I run Deestone 750s on standard steel rims. Drive nicely and
look good, howl like a dog-knotted wolf and worth taking a bit
of extra care in the wet, ace off road. Picked them up as a
second hand bargain though, new ones seem difficult to find and
pricey as the only real downsides.
750s on the deeper offset steels (one ton?) are my idea of the
mutts nuts, looks brilliant and improved steering lock. I
personally wouldn't go over 235 at the widest, I have driven a
series 3 on 265s and thought that the slow speed handling was
particularly crap. The owner, who is well into his eighties,
couldn't manage it anymore so we gave him some spare 205's to
trial and all was well again :) They would look shite on a 109
       though.
The 235/85 r16 insa traction tracks that my brother runs on his
:gay: 90 are an option. They sure as hell ain't 235 wide! Pretty
much identical profile to my 750s. Very useable on the road and
not too shabby off it either. If I can't afford deestones to
replace mine when the need arises, I would consider the Insas.
Modular wheels, or even 8 spokes, are a good practical choice if
they suit the look you have in mind; the larger offset really
       improves steering lock.
Xtra Tractions? I would rate them >rock<

Brother just popped back for lunch, so have had a measure. His
Insa traction tracks are 6.5" across the tread blocks, compared
to 7.0" for my deestone 750s.
I thinks that's a bit narrower than most knobbly 235's.
(sidewall height is essentially constant at the nominal across
       most types)
