Putting a hard top on never stopped me carrying a little bit of
       firewood

here is another joe that simply loves his basic pick up !!!
It can take a load of sh** and you can live with the back being
       a bit dirty :)
plus it's like having a bay window with a wonderful view of
       oncoming traffic etc
oh and for the Eco/Green blokes, it is an effort in reducing
       unnecessary fuel
burnt lugging the heavy hard top about ( :WTF am i muttering
       here !!! )

In all seriousness, that's a major advantage of a Landrover.
What other vehicle can you convert from truck cab to soft top to
open top to hard top to suit your requirements with little more
       than a spanner?

That is what sheds are for! 8)
I used to hate having crawl up into the back when I had "stuff"
in there, much better to take what I need and just reach over
the side for the chainsaw, towrope, beer or whatever...bought
the cab with all glass etc. for $50, plus $60 freight (total
about 55 quid) and never looked back. Still have the hardtop
hanging in the shed in case I ever want to go back to original.
       Can't see it happening though.
Just passed WOF (like MOT in NZ) then the fuel pump decided 38
years was enough before it even left the testing station! New
pump for $80. All good and back on the road. >rock<
