thinkin of puttin 265 70 16 on me leafer 2 swb bought it with
fucked ones on so never drove um.

It would certainly require a bit of steering adjustment, if it
hasnt been done already, to stop some fairly hefty rubbing. 225
or possibly 235 is usually the maximum recommended width without
adjustment, and the steering on 265 will be hellishly heavy!

I went the other way. Had a set of 31 10.50s on when I bought
her (that is roughly a 155 in English I think)
Steering was heavy and she needed spats rivited to the arches to
remain road legal. 30mm spacers were also fitted to enable lock
without rubbing. Without spats the tyres would have sat a good
few cms outside of the arches.
My personal belief is that it probably introduces unnecessary
strain on components that arent meant to turn such big wheels.
For example I was sure when I took them off the gearbox was all
of a sudden quiter (the bearings need doing).
Either way its your motor and they can certainly look good with
big wheels on, just don't drill for spats or anything like that
until you have had a chance to give it a drive somewhere with
the wheels on.

For me this always raises the question. Do people want looks or
practicality? I use my series as a daily drive and find 205/80
all terrains perfect. Having said that I retired a few months
ago so the daily commute has gone but still no desires to make
it look like a "Tonka Toy"

235/85x16 on 6.5" (130 rims) is the biggest i've run, they
appeared to fill the arches nicely without adding too much
weight to the steering or limiting lock
i'm at present running 7.50r SAGs on the same 6.5" rims under my
109, period looking tyres but discreetly filling the arches

Looks, which is why they all end up spending £££££££ on
569203's. If it was just about needing to have a wider track,
more steering lock and / or tyres wider than 8" there are any
number of "gay" wheels at a much cheaper price.

From a practicality standpoint the later (post-2007ish) 5.5J
rims are tops as they're suitable for tubeless tyres. I bought a
set from a 2011 Gaybender for the lightweight as the plan
(eventually) is to do some euro-leafing in it and anyone can
deal with tubeless tyres, tubed type tend to be more difficult
for the average Krap-fit type establishment. A decent, radial
750R16 will be my choice on that.
The 88 has 255/85R16 BFG MTs on ANR1534 6.5J rims, and they
haven't been without their trials. They rubbed the rear tub when
articulating however 4 leaf paras have solved that. The lock
stops needed adjusting too.
The ambulance has 235/85R16 Cooper Discoverer STTs on ANR1534
6.5J rims. No adjustments were necessary.
Doug makes a good point, many will shell out loads of cash on
6.5J or super-hetero 2B FC 6.5J rims for the looks when
alternatives (including factory Wolf rims) are around for less.
Since the MoD swapped their pre-Wolf boingys onto Wolf rims the
ANR1534s were around en masse and cheaply. Now that supply has
dried up prices have gone through the roof. The last set of 4 I
bought locally with good Mich XZYs on cost me £50... :giddy:

My 86" is on 255/85 16s on standard 110 rims.
Handling is fine and I run it as my every day vehicle.
Personally I get 265 but why 70? Would suit a Rangey or disco
but an 88?
Try a decent 750/16 on for size; you might be surprised 8)

Hi
I'm running 265/75/16's on mine. i have disco axles as well
though. The steering is only heavy when carrying out slow
manoeuvres. i do beleive though that 265's will catch the arches
on extreme articulation. depends if you want the benefit for off
roading or not, if so go for it, if only for road use don't
bother.

um um ive got avon gay rangers 750s shit in mud and look like
ive nicked them off a push bike need wider.
the truck did look the part when i bought it with the drizzly
claws on 265s on.
thanks for some feed back still none the wiser tho :-?
