There are no lesser mortals here - I just want to encourage
people to think when taking pictures. After all it's their photo
to keep and cherish during these miserable winter months when
there's not much to take pictures of.
My understanding is that the PoM competition started to
encourage this thinking bit. It should not be understood as a
competition for the select few - anyone can take a good picture,
be it with a mobile phone camera, a cheap compact camera or a
fancy DSLR. Of course the environment helps, so a spectacular
landscape is probably more inspiring than being stuck in a
traffic jam, but look at these two examples:
Strang's photo from December 2009 below - if I remember well he
took it with a relatively cheap camera:

Lurch's shot from May 2010 below - just a dusty, unloved looking
leafer and a bit of sunlight:

In fact there's a number of other good examples in the winners'
section elsewhere in this topic... Think, take pictures and look
at them carefully afterwards - often you can find clues how to
improve next time. If you want to improve that is.
Jackual's shot is my favourite this month, but I love that kind
       of light.

Actually here is a suggestion for you to consider if you thought
       it may be appropriate...
Months where there aren't many entries, don't shortlist them,
just put them all up for vote.
Months where there are plenty of entries (probably more in the
summer) then cut out a few that aren't up to scratch.
Just an idea. Your competition, your rules :toothless:

OK, I'll keep this alive and let's see - good to see some
'hidden' interest behind the votes at least :lousyputer:

Yup that picture of mine was taken with a littel 5mp Minolta -
it was just a 'right place' 'right time' kind of photo.

There was something a photographer said to me recently, The best
camera isn't the DSLR camera you've got stuck at home, its the
camera you have on you at the time, that could be a phone
camera, or a small compact. Which kind of mirror images
(DYSWIDT?) Strangs effort with the Minolta - Right place right
       time.

Congrats to Ragnar, a cracking pic there.
Must say I am surprised ProDave didn't get more votes with that
impressive display of Series pulling power!
