My dad took us from Paddington to Birmingham on the Blue Pullman
way back when. I can remeber the seats being tall and square
looking! I think it was a case of doing it for the sake of it,
but just the once.
I can also remember waiting at lots of semaphor signals to go
into Snow Hill station as well!
No idea what is in the wagons - looks like large objects in
standard open wagnons.
If you watch the BTC film of the first runs of the Blue Pullman
(around 1958?) the guard turns up to the new swish diesel unit
carrying an oil lamp!

I love the way he whips out his phone to read the text from his
wife at 4:28.

:smilewide: These days we get issued with a "radio controlled"
Casio wristwatch, rather than a "proper" fob watch!
We've just a few semaphore signals left in the Walmer/Deal area
here now. They're a sod to see at night, with frankly quite poor
illumination. It's all about route knowledge though, and knowing
where to look for them and what to expect/be wary of. When you
think that, back then, there was no AWS or TPWS it's no wonder
there were more accidents than we have today.
