A bit of a hangover curing session in the shed today, the
aftermath of a night out watching the rugby and [s]getting
       completely hammered[/s] having a few drinks drink(*& >vom<.
After scoffing a box of leftover party size sausage rolls and
drinking a coffee, I felt like doing something constructive in
       the shed.
I pulled the brake cylinder off the pedal box, chucked the pedal
box in the parts washer, leaving it in there whilst I got stuck
into replacing the seals in the master cylinder.
After a good soak in the parts washer I hosed the pedal box
down, completely dismantled it, and gave it a quick bead blast.
I do like the pedal boxes on Landrovers, bit of a work of art
when you look at them, all the arc welding done by hand.
After taking them back to bare metal with the bead blaster, I
gave it a couple of coats of aerosol satin black.

Whilst the paint was drying I pulled the clutch master cylinder
off, and chucked the clutch pedal box in the parts washer.
The clutch master has been leaking fluid, it was a bit crusty
looking and the paint on the clutch pedal had been eaten off,
where brake fluid has dribbled down it.

Once in bits I again cleaned the alloy cylinder up in the bead
blaster and ran a tiny brake hone around it a few turns, washed
it out, fitted new seals on the plunger, and put the whole lot
together with a good bit of rubber grease, The same as what I
       did with the brake master.
By the time I had rebuilt the clutch master, the paint had dried
on the brake pedal box, ready for reassembly. The golden look to
the brake master is soft seal, a protective wax, I didn't want
to paint it, and wait for the paint to dry.

       Hangover Cured
Just to clean and paint the clutch pedal and box, assemble and
refit to the bulkhead, But I think I will paint the foot wells
while the pedals are out, the paint in that area is
       non-existent.
       Cheers, Jack.

Just rub down and clear the foot wells- it would be a shame to

I couldn't make up my mind who I was supporting, But it was a
good match, Well done the AB's ;D
I'll be watching next weeks match at a mates bach in Mahia, a
       little surfers paradise :)
You have the right idea Parksy, I'll have to have a look for
something to keep the rust at bay, I wonder if fish oil will do?
I will need to paint the roof, Its been stripped right back, the
P/O was a panel beater, and he's done a belter of a job, not a
       single dink to be seen.
       Cheers, Jack.

Mahia, what a great spot; with the surf spots Rolling Stones and
annihilation; has to be one of my fave places in NZ.
       That and diving for crayfish-sweeet!
Back to the landy, personally I would go for a matt or satin
clear or lacquer, rather than an oil that might strip with other
       fluids...

Lots of work to be getting on with Black sheep, Picked up a shit
ton of parts during the summer back in the UK, Just waiting for
the weather to pick up so I can move the tractor out and clear
some space to work in the shed. ;D

The weathers been picking up here, so over the week I've picked
up the tools again and gotten stuck in. The front axles had a
swivel freshen up, The swivel housings and wheel hubs were
completely dry of oil, a much similar story to the gearbox.

To say it was all dry of oil the half shaft UJ's were in really
good nick still, must have hardly been in 4wd or locked the free
       wheeling hubs.

New swivel seals, bearings and railko's fitted, I had to fit
another shock absorber, the other had been annihilated with a
forklift prong. New braking parts. Nothing wrong with Britpart
       :finger:.
The steering relay was dry of oil (re-occurring theme here) and
seized fast, to the point it would crack when turning the wheel.

Some more OMG! eBay RARE! factory crayon chassis scrawl. E/CKD
       is Export/Completely knocked down.
Nice bite mark from a fork lift prong too.

A fair bit of big hammer swinging was involved, but after the
relay was out of the chassis it didn't look too bad.

Properly fucked. Bin fodder. I'll keep the housing and that and
get a new shaft & bushings to rebuild it at some point.
Gob of grease all over a relay that I rebuilt a year or two ago.
That'll make it easier to remove should it ever need it again.
I'll keep it topped up with
       oil.[URL=

I'll be taking the MAP hubs off again, they are leaking out of
the end caps, and a lot of the pawl springs are fucked, so I'll
get one of them mega turbo expensive rebuild kits off eBay and
do a proper job of them, other than that, they are in good nick
       and worth saving.
The drag link and track rod will need replacing, or
straightening, again, p.o.'s misuse of a forklift :wanker:.
There's a little bit of patching up to be done on the bulkhead
with the wings off, nothing major, also with the welding tackle
out I can re-route the exhaust so I can fit the engine and 'box.

Someones been here no too long ago, recent cylinders and brake
shoes. The hubs were full of oil upon removal, shouldn't really
be surprised as they share oil with the diff, Which was pretty
low on oil anyway, so I topped it up. Yet to see any wetness of
oil around the pinion seal, Sods law it'll leak because its the
only seal I haven't replaced. Maybe I'll find the arsedness to
replace it when I'm under it again.
Brakes are the same on the otherside, just a quick clean up and
       lubrication.

The hub seals were also recent, but I replaced them just as a
matter of course. All of the distance pieces on both the front
and rear axle were in good nick, so I left them alone for the
       time being.
I couldn't do any of the welding I wanted to do, as i'd run out
of wire for the welder earlier on in the week, And the one day I
was in town, forgot to pick some up. :haha:
I'll be taking the track rod(s) to work, to heat it with the
oxy-acetylene, then straighten them up. The spare one I had also
turned out to be bent ::)
       Cheers, Jack ;D

       Time for an update! :smile1
I've finally found the time at work to straighten out the track
rod, I also used the heat of the oxy-acet to free off the rusted
in worn-out rod ends, so I could replace them for new ones. All
fitted again now, and although its not off the stands, the feel
at the steering wheel is much tighter.
The gearbox was fitted a fortnight ago, after hacking the
exhaust with a angle grinder to make room for the 'box.

The kit for the MAP free-wheel hubs turned up, So a new set of
seals and springs for them, so far they're holding the oil in
       ok.
The petrol tank seems to be leaking a bit more than it was,(It
had a near full tank when I bought it!) as can be seen by the
wet patch on the floor in the photos. I'm hoping its just the
copper plug washer, I'll have to investigate it a bit more.
I've a bit of wiring to do too, as when the engine was removed
from the donor, the loom was cut with wire clippers, my fault, I
did that :haha:. I've also to make a bronze bush for the
throttle bell crank arm, but my lathes packed in and needs a new
set of capacitors on the motor. I also still need some welding
       wire. :toothless:

Jury rigged up a bit of starter cable and some wire to the coil
today to see if the engine would run.
Starter button fell to bits. Bugger. Another one fitted. Round
2, Starter motor engaged then VERY slowly turned the engine to
compression, and stopped. Its got no power to it what so ever, I
did clean it up before fitting, and on the bench under no-load
it spun well. Checked my earth leads are good and the battery is
       a goody, No problems there.
So, I've pulled the starter COMPLETELY to bits!, The field
windings are covered in fabric insulation which has rotted away,
it crumbles off in your hands. And under load it short circuits
       to earth.

I've had this happen before, and robbed the fields from a spare
starter for that time. so this time I've had to buy a set of new
field coils, But wonder if the original ones can be re-wrapped
with a bit of patience, So I've also bought some sticky backed
cloth tape to give it a try, my patience that is.
Lathes up and running now, Did a few little jobs including the
bushing for the carby bell crank. I've also picked up a reel of
       wire for the welder.
       Its all happening ;D
