Gotten most of the engine completed, I had to get another engine
for a decent sump, as the old sump from this engine had smashed
into the diff or propshaft when doing 'stunt' work and tore a
       big gash into it.

I've also attacked the painted over sign writing on the doors, I
was trying to gently buff it away with some coarse cutting
compound, but it just wasn't working, So I tried some gunwash
for cleaning out spraypaint guns, on a small area, thinking it
would just eat straight into the letters. How wrong I was. It
stripped all the top layer of paint off, Leaving the sign
       writing pristine.

I've been told that Agtec was collage, so that what I've thought
it has spent most of its life, But then someone else said that
it was a company that made crop spraying equipment, I did a
search online, There is an AGTECH that make sprayers here in
Hastings and also Gisbourne, But its not spelt the same, I did
find a AGTEC that is a farm machinery dealer in Marton in the
Manawatu, Which isn't too far away. I think i need to do some
investigating, and send some emails about to find out some more
       of its history.
I would like to fit the engine and gearbox soon, but I want to
change the bellhousing for a less smashed one, I have some spare
gearboxes on a pallet at the back of the barn....with 500 odd
bales stacked up infront of them......that's not going to be
       happening anytime soon then! :rolleye0012:
       Cheers, Jack.

Ey up, I've spent a good few evenings over the past few weeks
tracking down Agtec in Gisborne, I found that the company was a
veterinarian group run by the Gisborne Veterinarian Club, Both
of which dissolved in around about 1994-1995, and the registered
       business owner died in 2005.
I also tried to find out about Redstone motors, Where the
Land-rover was bought new, but no luck there either.
I've been waiting for over a month for some studs to turn up
from LR Series, so I can re-fit the manifolds, but I'm not
having much luck in getting any reply from sent emails, Usually
stuff arrives within a week of ordering, Bit pissed off with
       their lack of arsed-ness.
So with the long weekend over Easter I've been mucking about
pulling the manky gearbox to bits.

I was just going to replace the muntered bell housing, But with
the manifold studs lost in the abyss, I decided a full strip
down to replace all the seals and gaskets would be a good use of
       my Easter.
There was barely any oil in the main box, what oil there was was
shitty and loaded with bronze glitter bling.
One of the synchro springs had broken at some point and was
found in bits in the bottom of the housing.

The lack of oil has caused the bronze bushing on 2nd and 3rd
gears to run dry, pick up on the shaft and break into 3 peices,
breaking the locating peg and 2nd gear thrust washer.

I've to dig out a spare box out of the back of the barn, Lots of
the bales have been sold so I can drag it out. I'll see if I can
scavenge the mainshaft from that one.
After a good wash in the parts washer the gearbox looks as good
as new. All that grotty oil has kept it in good nick over the
       years.

Cheers , Nothing much, I'm waiting for gearbox parts,
And studs to fit the engine manifolds - been waiting over a
month and a half for them alone!
Been given another gearbox from someone local, and although a
series 3 all synchro unit, It has a fairey overdrive fitted, But
will need a new shaft and input 'clutch'.
I'm flat tack on at work, being at the height of kiwifruit
season, so I've only a spare bit of time in my mornings, and
       thus, not much progress.
       Cheers, Jack.

Repaired the mainshaft at the end of last week, The hardend
steel locating pegs were drilled out at work with a carbide
drill bit. All put back together with new pegs, thrust washers
       and bronze bearing sleeve.

The studs for the manifolds arrived, the engine is now ready to
fit in the landrover, I need to remove the bellhousing and fit
one bolt to the little camshaft cover, whilst its on the crane.

Taken delivery of the series 3 'box and overdrive, I've now
pulled to overdrive off and stripped it down. A new input shaft
and clutch have been ordered from Evolution automotive. The rest
of the overdrive looks spot on.

With social plans collapsing over the long weekend, I managed to
have a good loooooong weekend Landrover blitzing session
      .
Gearbox is now finished, I've re-built the slave cylinder,
honing and fitting a new piston and seals with a gob of rubber
grease. New pins were fitted to the cross shaft whilst it was in
bits. The hand brake adjuster and actuator have both been
refreshed, too. The gearbox can't be fitted yet, some mong has
made the exhaust route totally wrong - passing through the hole
in the middle chassis cross member, and fouls the overdrive.
I'll hack the 'zorst tube up and make something better suited,
ICBA this weekend with grinders and welding tackle, so untill
then the gearbox is pretty happy just chilling on the wheely
       cast iron table.

Instead, I feel like sorting out the steering, It was bad enough
trying to keep it on the road doing 50kph when it was being
towed from across town, under its own power on the open road....
must have been lethal . I did notice the tie rod had been
bent, So that accounted for the badly saw-toothed profile on one
of the front tyres, But not why it was so vague and sloppy.
First thing I checked was the nut on the side of the steering
box, Winding it out a bit and then back in, Just so it takes up
slack in the steering nut. Still sloppy, Not as bad, But still
sloppy. Then check the steering box for oil, No oil, but hello!,
whats this?, the outer column is about 1mm away from the alloy
steering box. The 4 screws holding the outer column in place had
come loose. Hard to see in the picture, but when I swung off the
steering wheel the column would lift up.

I've only just water jet blasted around that area, So not taking
any chances, water will have gotten in to the box, I took the
wing off, removed the pedal boxes and removed the steering box
       for a freshen up.

Thinking it had probably been loose for a long number of years,
Well judging by the fact the p/o blew the engine to smithereens
and ran the gearbox dry, I was expecting the guts of the
steering box to be a rusty shitty mess. I removed the fill plug
and chucked it into the parts washer for an overnight soak. The
next day I hosed the box down and took it apart on a bit on
       cardboard on the shed floor.

Rusty shitty mess?, I was wrong, infact it was pretty immaculate
inside. In the picture the parts wash has removed all the paint
and I've bead blasted the alloy housing.
I've got a couple of NOS steering box rocker shafts sat on the
shelf, So decided to put one to good use, Along with new gaskets
and seals, I've also put plenty of Loctite on all the screws,
Hoping it will hold back the oil and keep the screws from coming
loose again. I seem to be obsessed with Loctite and Hylomar - I
don't want this Landrover to leak oil like! :haha:

The painted parts are just bombed in satin black aerosol, I left
the alloy natural - I like it that way. :girly:

Voila! That'll sort the steering out. I will be pulling out the
relay, No doubt the seals will have long since dropped the oil
all over NZ's paddocks and roads. But like the exhaust that'll
just have to wait till I find the arsedness.
