       JCB museum visit. Pic heavy
By: Alien Date: January 19, 2014, 1:00 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Hi there fellow leafers.
I had the privilege of a private tour of JCB's museum and the
heavy products factory on Tuesday. No pics of the factory due to
"commercial considerations" but I did get some pics of the
machines in the "story of JCB" as they call it.

Not a good pic but it shows a grey fergie from 1953 fitted with
a side loader arm apparently made from scrap water pipe that
came from Coventry after the war.

       A JCB Major Loader from 1954 - 57 . What a tool compared to a
       shovel.

       A 1961 JCB 3. What a firm, invents the hydraulic loader ;D,
forgets about the door to get in ::) you had to climb over the
       back end to get in.

One of the 10 original scooters they bought in 1958 to get the
number plates off them. they still own 9 of them (1 given to a
customer to close a sale (JCB 4)) they have about 400 in total.

A 1967 3Cii. I used to own one of these. It didn't look as good
       as this though.

The underside of the 3C. you could put this to work tomorrow.

A 110B. Hydrostatic drott from 1973-79 that was years ahead of
its time. when Caterpillar brought there hydrostatic model out.
Mr JCB sent a model to the boss of Cat with a note that said
'imitation is the sincerest form of flattery'. there is no
mention of the reply he got.

A 1980 Loadall 520-4. This was in daily use until 2010 when a
farmer traded it in for a new model (I bet he'll regret that).

The worlds largest private collection of JCB models, on loan
       from the owner.

At last modern art that I like. 2 tons of 8mm wire, 5 months
work and more expensive than a real one :-? but I'd have it my
       garden anyday.

A 2013 JS220 built to mark the one millionth machine built (they
wouldn't tell me what the actual 1,000,000th machine was, it
could of been a tracked wheel barrow >vom<)
The visit took over 5 hours and included a fantastic lunch.
Here ends the anorak fest of my visit.

P.S. JCB bought their first ever item made back of its original
owner and restored it completely. It was a farm trailer from
1946. Not bad for lad who was sacked from the family firm
(Bamfords) and who was apparently told "you'll never make an
engineer, as long as you have a hole in your arse" rofl

The LD Lambretta that gave up its number rang a bell. I took one
off a bloke who owed me £8 for a job I did for him. As a "well
ard rocker" I had to keep it at my sisters until it was sold.
