This is very useful information. I want to remove and inspect
the drivers side motor again, so will be checking all this and
hopefully I can get to the bottom of it, so to speak.

I can second the dog clutch play as a likely reason. had to
replace one of mine last year du to the same problem.

Sussed it. Of the entire movement that there should be, around
50% of that is lost in play. I'll be fusing the shaft thingy at
some point soon, hopefully that will fix things!

Well I just had one off and in pieces and there isn't a way to
fix the shaft to the (whatever it's called) as there isn't the
clearance. You can't do it away from the main body because the
two halves go into the body from each end. Arrggh!
I ended up mixing a bit of liquid metal and carefully applying
it, then sliding the shaft (this sounds disgusting) into the
other bit. Not sure if it's worked yet as the damn battery has
decided it didn't want to have any electricity in it at some
point in the last few weeks.

tried liquid metal first myself... came off straight away..
welding a blob to it and working it down seems the only option
to me apart from replacing (still don't have a welder so had to
replace..). It does not need to be the perfect shape, just a
'nose' to reduce the play for a while me thinks..
