Make-do fan belt

Morning all, I am alternator-less this morning and awaiting the
replacement from Paddocks.
My red-top can cope with the electrics, but the engine was a bit
warm after six miles with no water pumping through it.
Anyone got any suggestions for a bodge-up fan belt round the
water pump and crankshaft? I was going to try long rubber bands
but I suspect they would snap.
There's an old anecdote about a pair of tights but I suspect
that comes from the same people who talk about cracking eggs
into radiators.
P.S. Don't tell me to put the old alternator back on until the
new one arrives.

Hi, if you have a staple gun you can use a length or rope with
the ends stapled together.

when I had my 2.5NA I used some of the fat cable ties (about
3/8" wide). it made a bit of a noise but got me from the west
midlands back to wales no problem, alternator and all!

... however i've learnt my lesson now and carry a spare belt
under the seats :)

I have honestly done the tights thing and it worked..just !
luckily there was a little corner shop near where fan belt broke
,so was a case of what was available, the waistband part is good
as a bit thicker than the rest ( wisely suggested by the lady
who was with me in the motor at the time ! )
served ok as a get you home job and spun the alternator and
water pump adequately ;D

Tights work. Used them when my belt broke at a trial. Have to
not rev the motor to high though.

Well I'm not a crossdresser and Mrs Pintofale only wears saucy
red fishnets, so no tights to hand. The rubber bands and the
bungee both failed so I have decided to manage without, pretty
sure it doesn't need the pump in this weather anyway and
hopefully the alternator will turn up shortly. If beetles can
run air-cooled, so can my landy!

Yep cable ties joined together will work. I've got a piccy
somewhere of a 109 with a cable tie alternator belt.
