200 tdi cooling

I have got the fresh lump into my 88, at present no fans using
the original radiator.
How many people run there landy with no fans?
I have got an electric twin unit but there doesn't seem like
alot of room for it. I haven't cut the boss off the tdi unit
where the fan was attached but i guess i could with a grinder
which would give me another inch. But then will it require a
plastic cowl?
I'm going to get it running for now as it is very cold.
Does this sound like a recipe for disaster?

The 200 runs quite cool.
Without a doubt one day in the summer in traffic you will get it
too hot,
but depending on how you drive it really should be ok in jan and
feb. The fan doesn't come in much anyway.
But like I say I wouldn't be happy in warmer weather cos you
never know what situation you will run into.

You might need it for laning, or even crawling in slow traffic,
especially in the summer.
Mine comes on when towing a full trailer (car trailer with Disco
or LWB loaded) on motorway hills in warmer weather, but very
rarely comes on in normal driving, and that's on a fully laden
Carawagon.
On our conversions we've put the fan in front of the rad - as
long as it's tight up to the rad you don't need a cowl.

Aye there would be loads of space infront of the rad.
You would need a fan designed to blow that way.

Mine (200Tdi) has the series radiator and a Kenlowe fan in front
of it (so it blows from the outside, through the radiator). I
used to have it on the thermostat but it never kicked in. Now
it's just on a switch but I never have to use it, save for when
towing the caravan up hills. Admittedly my temp. gauge isn't
that reliable but I've no cause to think that the engine is
overheating.

200di in mine....electric fans mounted in front of the rad...std
rad,
Been in 3 years...only need the fans if stuck in traffic in
summer.

my 200tdi 88" has a citroen bx pusher fan in front of the rad,
in three years i think i've needed it twice (when towing discos
on my dolly) and the rest of the time has been switched on just
to test it still works
my 200tdi 109 has no fan and in the last two years i've only
felt it needed one on the one day when laning slowly on the
hottest day of the year, i was baking inside with both vents,
windows and the catflap open with my little smiths heater doing
it's best to shed some heat

Thanks for the reply's I will have to put it on really, don't
want the 200 blowing up. Never thought of infront!
Il see this weekend, seat box back in, just need to finish
fabbing the underseat battery box.

I ran mine with no fan and it only got warm once,not hot.£25
will get you a 14 inch fan like the one I have fitted on the
engine side working through a switch. Never needed it but it's
nice to know its there :thumbs:

Not had a fan since I fitted mine, just got my rad recored with
a four core, not had it over heat yet but this is Scotland.
