Spring Shackles

Excuse all the questions but I am undertaking my first complete
rebuild and like to know how things are meant to work so here
goes!
My main hobby is bus restoration, and when I have changed bus
and coach springs the rear, swinging shackle is secured to the
chassis via a chrome shackle pin which is passed through a brass
bush in the chassis, with a similar arrangement through the rear
spring eye. Any movement is then taken up by the shackle pins
moving in the brass bushes.
On a Landrover is the movement taken up by the spring bolts
passing through the bushes in the chassis and spring in a
similar way, or by the bushes themselves?

Its the rubber in the bush that takes up all movement, the bolts
passing through the metal sleeve in the bush are tightened up
squeezing the metal sleeve between the 2 shackles. This is why
its very important to have the vehicles weight on the suspension
before fully tightening up the shackle bolts.
