       Not strictly true mandy.
Late series 3s were rated at 3.5t and earlier models were not
       rated at all.
So your guess is as good as mine.
The 2t rating is a myth that gets spouted evertime someone
mentions towing on a series forum.

Steifbear, the earlier models have the rating on the data
plate.. Mines a 1976 P reg series 3 and the data plate clearly
shows the maximum towing limit to be 2 tons. For once I even
       have photographic evidence :)

Following further research it would appear that I am slightly
       off key this evening.
the post series 2a 88/109 data plates reccomend 2tons but the
manual states 4tons with coupled brakes (air/ hydrolic) and
doesnt say anything about modern overrun brakes......
Make up your own minds but post rationalisation in 1981 they
plated all 109" as 3.5ton limits

Check with your VOSA man. With that trailer on tow I believe you
need to fit a Tachograph, I certainly had to with a Nissan
Cabstar pick up. I have a mate who has spent 40+ years in
Tachograph business if you need any questions answering.
