How a hydro-electric power station transformer was moved by rail
and road in 1962.

Lovley, that takes me back to my apprentice days with GEC. The
big turbines where made there up to 100 foot long, a nice mix of
Scammel and Diamond T still being used. It could take two or
three days to get them loaded and on there way.

Fantastic, I have looked at that, from the little train and
said "how did they get that there?" - now I know!

Great film
These days the OH&S man would have a fit at some those work
practices.

Superb footage. Great clothing n that too!
We move stuff around at work in very similar fashion - we even
have the same jacks and big ratchets (which we use for winding
the legs in/out on the rail crane - tiring work in summer!)

Interesting old film. I served my time with Parsons Peebles in
Edinburgh, seen a few transformers moved like that over the
years. We even used to have our own road transport route with a
special piece of road through the middle of a roundabout,
because the beam trailers couldn't get around the curves!

[font=arial]Railfreight is a big part of my work, you can see a
lot has not changed over the decades
Lovely piece of film.
When moving heavy stuff, railways often prefer hydraulic lifting
things to cranes...
Right now, we are planning to move a few transformers that look
like these...

It's good to see that you still can move things like that by
rail. British Railways gave up long ago.
