What to save...

Evening all.
Just wondered what I should be saving from my 2.25 petrol for
when I fit my 200tdi? I'm planning on keeping the Alty and
fitting some spacers from Glencoyne so I can fit ir round with a
timing belt on the 200tdi. But apart from that I'm unaware I
need anything else?

The Glencoyne alty spacer kit has been out of stock since
August.
I recently fitted

of ebay by
bits4landys which is a couple of squid cheaper but you will
have to source three fitting bolts 1½" longer than the original.
You will need the alty bracket from the 2.25.

Use the 3 bolt fitting off the top of the waterpump, you can
then use 2 x 90 hoses to plumb in the rad.

Cheers guys and particularly for the tip that Glencoyne are out
of stock. I would love to keep the 2.25 but just don't have the
space I'm afraid! If it didn't drink so much I'd keep it in
their :/

If the petrol engine is that good - why not fit LPG ?

I would love to keep it and convert to LPG but with a planned
overland trip to Eastern Europe etc soon after the rebuild I
don't think there will be many LPG stations about, which kinda
nullifies the cost of doing it. And also i would like a bit more
grunt from the 200tdi :)

Okay so onto the next question, where is the best place to get a
200tdi from? I'm aware that you can get them off ebay etc and
may well be good runners, but theres always that risk I buy one
that appears fine but with smoke pouring and oil pissing. I'm
willing to spend about £750 and would ideally like a disco
200tdi, as from what I've seen its a slightly easier fit exhaust
wise. Any advice helpful, much appreciated! C

If you're willing to spend up to £750 I'd have thought that
would buy you a complete but rusty Disco. Buy the complete motor
and you can drive it about and get a much better idea of the
condition of the engine than you can with an engine alone that's
sat on someone's garage floor. Also you can salvage other useful
stuff, such as the diffs and radiator for use in the Tdi
conversion. The remains you can sell for scrap.
