Checker Plate quandry????

Another newbie question. I have seen a Series 2a correct spec
for me galvanised chasis 200 tdi engine BUT it has checker plate
on the wing tops which I think spoils it. In general can it be
removed and if left with holes are wing tops available or would
you have to change the wings and is this a nightmare job.
Any advice or thoughts would be great.

The holes left in the wing tops are the last of your worries.
Chequerplate is dangerous. It's known to carry bumaids. I
reccomend getting rid of it ASAP but be sure to employ a
certified contractor to remove it, or wear an NBC suit, put the
plate into an empty oil drum, fill it with concrete and bury it
at sea. 20,000 leagues under is the recommended safe depth.
Of course if you've touched it with bare hands, or driven the
motor for more than a week then you could already be infected.
Have you had dreams of driving a Discovery or a J**p Cherokee?
Have you looked longingly at 8-spoke wheels or swingaway spare
wheel carriers? If the answer to any of those is YES then you
need to seek medical help - quickly!

Oh Shit!
I've owned a Discovery (or 2) have 8 spokes on my 109SW and have
looked at swingaway carriers (decided not to buy one, if that
helps) but I've Nevver had any chequer.
I think I need more (stronger) medication
but in answer to the original question, removal should just
leave a few small holes that can be filled fairly easily

You should be able to fit some countersunk solid rivets in the
holes to hide them, and to be honest a dab of paint and nobody
will notice as its a land rover and there are rivet heads all
over the place anyway. You could skim the holes with filler to
make them invisible but it is probably not worth the effort.

For God's sake get rid bud, as quick as possible.I heard of a
bloke who kept chequer plate on,within a year he bought a G(r)ay
import Pajero.So you see, it can cause psychosis.

Ali scrap gets a good price, just weigh it in and get used to
the holes. Or stick rivets in them, God knows there are enough
rivets already and you will delight a "rivet counter" when he
discovers you have too many. You will make his day!

Chequeer plate is dangerous shit. Some people have it invisibly
mounted on their vehicles.... you'd never think to look at the
bonnet slam panel on a Tdi converted Green 88" and find some
there.... even I have a bit, but it's strengthening brace for a
109" full FFR Tilt frame. It's there as a small reminder of the
slippery slope that is "embellishment". I am quite secure in the
knowledge that even my engine might be out of a boingy, but it's
a 2286 Diesel, just like wot it should be. No fripperies on or
in my motor.
