Green Flag?

I don't know if anyone here has green flag, either as a freebie
or paid for, but you might want to check your terms and
conditions. Someone I know on FB seems to have had a problem
due to the age of their vehicle.....
Their T & C's say
" If you have chosen Personal Cover or Family Cover the level
of cover that you have selected is extended to cover you and
other people you have told us about in any vehicle under 16
years old that is privately registered in and being used within
the UK. If you have chosen EuroPlus, then Sections E1-E11 will
also apply."

In my nearly 40 years of Landrover ownership I have only ever
once needed to be towed home...got my son to tow me,
Thats not an option now...but I have been considering this
outfit,

Its a pay as you go breakdown service...so it you dont break
down you never have to pay them...but if you do its a fixed
charge with a recovery service,
Seems to be all I could as for with no age limit on the car,
Anybody had any experience with the company....good/bad????

^^^As long as you have the funds available to pay-on-the-day, it
seems to make a lot of sense.
Unless you break down a lot, of course.

We had a case on a Green Road Run a year or so ago where, having
recovered a broken motor to the tarmac, the truck refused to
recover him when it turned up as his vehicle was too old.
Luckily he was close enough to another SLROC members yard and
was towed there by mates. - so it can happen. Dunno what the
company was.

I used to have green flag as an add on to insurance policy for
my passat and wifes golf. Golf broke and we then found that it
only covered recovery for 10 miles. We live in a rural village
so are always a long way from home. Ditched green flag and got
AA relay. Series 3 broke with a dropped hot spot (found out
course later) a six hour wait in freezing cold then AA sub
contracted the job to get me home.

I don't get this 'too old to tow' bollocks.
And the fact that it's all in the small print, rather than
up-front and obvious, betrays them as the money-grabbing cunts
that they are.
By definition, a break-down/recovery company should surely be
all about customer service, not :haha: when you're alone, stuck
down a C-road, in the dead of night, because you didn't have an
electron-microscope to hand to read all of their get-out
clauses.

^^^^ I think its mostly the "Free" cover with Insurance etc
where these problems crop up ? Pay the full whack with RAC or
AA and you should be OK. I'd still be for arguing that they
accepted the vehicle onto cover and knew what age it was...
The annoyance there is that they will insist on sending a man
with a van even though you tell them its a 4x4 and will need a
proper recovery truck. " We might be able to fix it by the
roadside sir" ..." Not with a knackered top swivel you won't"
...Sorry Sir, that's the rules.." Cue an extra 2 hours wait
AFTER the man with the van confirmed it was gubbed.

^^^Granted; but some people, I am sure, have some of these
gratis or promotional covers, erroneously in the belief that
their vehicle is covered - when in actual fact, it isn't.
Ditto on your latter point though; and don't forget the sneering
tone when you try to explain that you actually know a little
about the mechanics of your vehicle.

I looked through the RAC stuff, it appears that less than 3.5 T
GVW is covered if you have personal membership, but there's a 10
year old limit on the basic vehicle type cover. But I'm
guessing they would tell you that when you were trying to sign
the vehicle up.
And I've had the LWB recovered, when I broke the gearstick
off..... a few years ago.
It's worth looking at the boring paperwork before you get stuck
25 miles up a moor someplace, though :)
