one obstacle will be the offside engine mount and oil filter,
another will be the bellhousing bolt pattern
all can be overcome though

I have heard the engine won't match up to a series 1 box, but it
has a Perkins in at the moment with an adaptor plate and remote
oil filter, my main concerns are, will the g'box self destruct
with this sort of torque, and turbo clearance.

It has been done, I was looking into it for a while before I
chickened out and went all SIII LWB :) It's a proper squeeze
into the engine bay though...

Will be joining lrsoc in the New year, when I'm not completely
On my arse! I'm only looking at this because I can get a disco
cheap, it sounds like I'll have to stump up for 200tdi and un
't' it, looks like a lot less chew, but saying that, I enjoy the
odd challenge :)

What about doing a 200di conversion without the turbo so you
don't need squeeze in the turbo, intercooler, pipes etc :-?

I did it a while back on the Comedy Land Rover 88 S1 (with S3
box)
The engine mates to S3 box, but you have to drill & tap 4 holes
at the bottom of the 300 clutch housing, the holes are there but
blank.....
Theres an alloy webbed strengthener cast into the bottom of the
clutch housing that fouls the Series gbox x member that has to
be removed........
Cant remember engine mount situation...... check Glencoyne for
200 into series fitting, a lot applies.....
Use Series clutch
Convert throttle to 300 cable
Power steering pump is an issue due to single serpentine belt, I
emptied the contents of the pump and filled it with
grease.......
I did mine with out the turbo (300di) but ovs, the new owner
refitted the turbo, I wouldn't recommend the di option, over
revved and ran out of steam, fitted early Disgay diffs and it
struggled on hills.....
All the other engine swap issues.......
its been a while.......bit its doable.....

Cheers for the info paulnb57, I did suspect the g'box would be
an issue, I'd quite like to keep the s1 box, for the character
of it, and in response to espacekiller, I can get a 300 tdi
cheap, and do without the intercooler, I just don't have the
funds for a decent 200, I'm starting to think a 2.5 na diesel
may be the easiest option within my budget, as the chassis has
been chopped about anyway and power ain't what I'm after, I just
want it back on the road.
