Brakes

My SWB has sat for a couple of weeks and when I moved her off
the drive yesterday the brake pedal is sticking down and seems
reluctant to come back up and the brake lights are stuck on. Can
someone advise me on the basics to avoid me breaking something
please?

Have you got a servo fitted? I had this problem when the servo
was knackered not a very nice experience :smiley-furious:

Could just be the pedal rusted on to the pivot.
Does it free up a bit if you push it down and up a few times?

it's possibly the pivot point in the pedal box has dried out (i
had this problem in Big Ears) and gone sticky/stiff
can you pull the brake pedal back up by hand further than it
naturally gets pulled by the return spring ??
if you can my cure (not ideal) was to remove the plate from the
top of the pedal box and squirt WD at the pivot point and then
waggle the pedal to work it into the pivot (repeat ad infinitum)
until it started to free off a little, i then added a second
pedal return spring in the footwell to assist the freeing off
process whilst driving
the correct way to cure the sticky pedal problem is to remove
the whole pedal box from the footwell and strip it down, clean
the pivot pin/pedal and regrease, if i eventually do this i'll
be tempted to fit a grease nipple so i can give it an
occaisional squirt from the gun

to post another problem as she now won't start!

FMW did the sticky brake pedal thing earlier in the year, being
a non-servo it was easy to lube the pivot with the inspection
plate removed and warm it up with the blowlamp to get it freed
off, been fine since. Definitely worth checking that before
condemning anything else.
