capstan 200tdi

although I do love my 2 1/4 petrol when its purring, now that
bertie is my only transport I have decided for economy and every
day reliability I will be fitting a 200 diesel with or without a
turbo in the near future! My question is will I be able to hook
up the crankshaft driven winch to this engine? if not I may
aswell sell it to help fund the swap.

I am in this position but a bit further forward.I have the 200
in without inter cooler (fantastic).looking down the starting
handle hole the crank is in perfect alignment.a drive dog that
will take an m20 bolt and maybe a modified drive shaft is all I
think necessary.
We will see. :-?

You can get all the parts to connect a capstan to a
200tdi,making with all replacement parts, Look on eBay. I was
going to put a superwinch one on mine but I decided it would
never get used.

Depends what capstan you have. I have an Aeroparts one that came
with no linkage. I will be making bits for mine but most of the
originals will fit apart from the brackets that bolt onto the
timing case. BenzRover on here has a nice setup on his limestone
88" with fabricated new brackets.

cool I will keep an eye out for your progress, i suspected as
bolting straight to original box that the crank would line up it
was more a connection worry but looks promising thanks :smile1

Here's some 200TDi - Aeroparts images if they're of help to
anyone
Calum, I should still have the cardboard templates for the
plates if they're of any use?
There's some good mounting holes on the front of the block on
the L/H side, but on the R/H side I was struggling, so ended up
using the timing cover bolts which I don't like, however, I've
done some serious winching, and with three casts on the bobbin
at tick over you can stall the engine with a good pull and the
timing cover bolts seem to be doing fine!
Good tip from Bob Jones from the series one club, the driveshaft
to the winch uses series one clutch components...
The little ball shaped splined ends are available as
reproduction parts and not that expensive, the ball shape to the
splines allows for misalignment between the engine, the female
sockets to which they go in are also from a series one clutch
I made rubber gaiters to stop the shit from getting in to the
joints from cut down rubber boots the wiring goes through from
the body to the door on all modern cars, skoosh of grease and a
couple of cable ties... Bingo!
Ken.
