       ADVICE PLEASE - Battery Size

       Ay up,
Betsy is struggling to start on a cold morning even with a new
battery. It is a direct replacement for what was on previously
but I don't think it is man enough for the job and that that is
       my starting problem.
Could you all please tell me what CCA battery you use please,
even better if you have an actual battery number so that I could
       order one using the number.
Really appreciate any responses cos I want to get this sorted
ASAP as she is my daily driver.
       Cheers
       S

I have put in a brand new earth direct from the engine to the
battery and the existing earths don't look too bad but changing
       them is on the list.

I only use batteries with at least 700 CCA. You can go bigger,
but - on a petrol leafer at least - the limiting factor is the
size of the battery cage (my 900CCA diesel battery wont fit)

If you feel like splashing out, you can't beat one of these. I'm
still using a ten year old one!

I used to have an "072" battery with 800 CCA that fitted into
the cage nicely and started a 2.25P in all weathers.
I know you've checked the earths, but it also pays to check the
lives from the battery to the solenoid and from the solenoid to
the starter as well. My current (no pun intended) battery is a
red top with something like 1000 CCA, and I know from experience
that even if you have brand new extra earth cables, when your
+ve's aren't up to it you'll still struggle to start.

I got a couple of Exide RC 135 batteries off eBay a while back
as both on the 88 and 109 were past their best. They're 700CCA
and did need part of the base trimming with a Stanley knife to
fit the battery tray (they were the clamp type fixing) but are
grunty and were £40-summat each. Type 334/335 is what I had on
before, again chosen as the largest that would sensibly fit.
Petrols don't really need much to start though, what is the
rating of your current battery? If not bad earthing it could be
       the starter getting tired.

I do also suspect the starter may be a bit tired but I wasn't
sure if the battery was a bit small as I just replaced the one
that was on it. I think it is a 760cca or close to that but Im
not with it at the mo.
Thanks Doug goud point about the lives, I will give them a look
over at the weekend. Too dark on a night now!

An 069 Varta spins the 200tdi over quickly in all weathers and
without glow plugs too. Got another for the carawagon.
