Some pics from the CVLRC Sewell RTV in Nov
By: megatoad Date: November 19, 2013, 4:49 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Last Sunday (16th Nov 13) was the official CVLRC Sewell RTV (the
previous months trial had been shifted to here at short notice
       too).
I managed to source some new bumper bolts and managed to install
the second D ring. I also finally fitted the heated mirrors to
the 110 so put the spares onto the 80 instead of teh silly
useless original looking round things, to hell with originality,
rear visibility is more important to me. I do need to strengthen
the ali panel in the doortop as it is a bit flexy. However teh
Saturday fettling session was rather busy with many small jobs
on the 80", the lads new S3 and the 110, we all like fettling.
I also installed the new 1504 speedo with the LED illimination.

I had had no lights on the instruments and had thought nothing
about it, just assumed they had not been installed. When I
opened the dash I found that the clusters did have lights!!

However when I installed the new speed and wired in the lights,
Nothing, Nada, or Nowt as we say up t'north.
As you can see, the previous owner who restored the motor used a
cunning wiring colour scheme. If its not RED don't use it
:banghead. Yes they did number the wires BUT :WTF (Cheers Matt)
I then found that the supply to the backlights was fed through a
push pull switch, wondered what that was for ::) Sadly this is
a very knackered switch and does not work reliably. However I
now I have a stonkigly bright speedo :smilewide:
Back to my previous thread, yes I will install a propper PWM
dimmer to the lights as well as changing the feeble bulb in the
other dial with an LED installation. fed from the same.
The other fettling was to get the lads new purchase ready for
scrutineering by trying to install a 2nd throttle return spring
and tying the battery down. Plus trying out his new winch
bumperand seeing if it will meet ALRC regs. After a bit if angle
grinding we got it to fit but elected to replace the original
       bumper for the trial.
The first photo of the toys together ready to trial.

  HTML http://imageshack.com/scaled/800x600/209/46ag.jpg[/img]
The boys new purchase is a very tidy S3 in a rather hideous
colour with the unfortunate monica of "The Green Machine". This
IS going to be repainted into a more interesting colour scheme.
The plan is Limestome roof and cab sides then the body in
Orange. There was an orange used on the Stage 1's that he is
       hoping to emulate.
SWAMBO decided that she was driving this day and I was to be her
navigator :2mo5pow: Oh well go with the flow.
First section I told her to go close to the tree on her side
then turn hard left to get through the 11 and drop straight down
       the bank to the 10.
  HTML http://imageshack.com/scaled/800x600/823/4mr1.jpg[/img]
But no, she went close to the tree on MY side, so close in fact
       that she did this :smiley-furious:
  HTML http://imageshack.com/scaled/800x600/845/lah9.jpg[/img]
Ah well, at least the glass popped out and fell into the rear
tub in one piece, a but of panel beating and it'll be squeezed
back in at the next fettling session.
  HTML http://imageshack.com/scaled/800x600/716/r7fn.jpg[/img]
The 5th section of the day we started having door issues. As it
was a very steep 50deg slope down a clay bank with a sharp left
hander at the bottom alternatively terminated by an immovable
concrete block, I didn't think A had shut her door properly so
got her to shut it again. However as you can see from below the
door swung open at the bottom and twatted the 11 cane :2mo5pow:

Unfortunatly, as she was delighted to point out, on the very
next section, MY door flew open and whacked an 8 gate !!

Here are a couple of the lads S3 in the sections, it was his 1st
RTV session in the new S3 and only his 2nd ever RTV drive! The
1st bing in the 80" at Roundhill Woods.
He did really well, nearly beating his mum, who was only driving
her 2nd ever RTV as well, but copped an 11 on the last session
of the day, when his engine stopped. The LT lead had dropped off
       the coil :smilewide:

So April came in as 2nd placed leafer, with Dom 3rd Leaf.

Andy of course came in as 1st Leafer, that said there were only
       3 leafers entered :giddy:

       A blooming good day overall.
Again, big thanks to CVLRC and looking forward to Brickhill next
       month.

       How did you get on?
Got any pics to add :smilewide:
Where were you trialling? we used to get some NERO chaps who
would join with YLROC at Helmsley, can't remember the chaps name
but drives a blue & limestone S111 van, good trialler.

Hi Aimbones, thats your tyres on "The Green Machine".
We didn't realise that Extra Tractions are directional, so Dom
fitted most of em wrong way round in the dark !!!
They definatly suffer from under traction that way round rofl

That would be Brian, I borrowed his truck.
Actually I think we are at Helmesly next month and he offered it
to me again for the day.
Very nice bloke and a top notch driver.
We were at the Penrith trial site.
I will stick a few pics up shortly!
       Cheers

I came last but here is the story:
1st section got to gate 4.
       2nd section gate 4 again;
At this point I was leading the leafer class! Was feeling rather
happy but aware it would all change...
3rd section with Brian sat in we collectively forgot where a
gate was so stopped. Gate 6.
They graciously allowed me to continue to see how far I got and
I actually cleared it from there, but alas! the 6 stuck.
From there I consistantly got 7/8s due to daft mistakes and then
continued the sections generally to around a 4 so I was quite
       happy for a first go!
Came last by only 4 gates so if that silly mistake on sect 3
hadn't happened I would have come one place higher! Quite happy
with that for a first go...

Great stuff! I have seen many a series one door folded in half
when trialling, some drivers secure them with bungie to stop it
happening. Keep up the good work on inspiring some of us to have
       a go!
