Tiled pubs

Well another anoraky subject, but one that represents some of
the best of Britishness - the pub, but in this case, those with
ornate tiled frontages. As we all know, many of our pubs are
closing, and so this is another subject matter worth preserving
digitally in my view.
Here's a few to get started.....
Rochdale

York

This is in Manchester near the Arndale Centre, and has been
boarded up for nearly 20 years - it re-opened a few weeks ago,
and the owners have done a great job inside - worth a visit if
you are near

Great topic...but an immediate correction, Strangler.
That first boozer, 'The Carter's Arms', is in Royton,
Oldham...not Rochdale.
Up until a few years ago, the tiles on the exterior were quite a
vivid emerald green; but local twats picked and knocked them
off.
I don't know if it's a trick of photography, but they look quite
black in that pic.

Ah I meant Royton Drew - only took it a couple of weeks ago, and
it was a particularly gloomy day, hence the poor colour. It
would look better in the summer.

No, it was just Oldham; depressingly simple.

The Carter's used to be a good 'roomed' pub, with a lounge,
snug, games-room, etc. Probably open-plan with bamboo plants and
'Club Tropicana' constantly playing now.

I should take some pictures in Sheffield, one brewery went in
for brown tiled frontages (easy to keep clean in a very dirty
city) so there are quite a few around, some of which are still
serving.

There's one in Worksop, near the station, brown tiled, still
with the now defunct 'Hole's Brewery' signage.

Good choice of topic Mark,
They have fascinated me for a goodly amount of time AND we are
especially well provided with some fine examples over this of
T'ill ...
All these are within 2 square miles of my house in
Ashton-Under-Lyne ...Sadly not many are establishments I'd be
willing to drink a pint in .
This was the "friendship" before being taken over and opened as
"Bar Blanco"
Then closing shortly afterwards ...if you look closely you can
just make out the green glazing of the tiles under the shit
paint job .
