Tyre Sizes - Advice Appreciated

Ay up.
I am looking to put some sensible tyres on Betsy rather than the
fat fook 31 10.50 things that she is currently wearing.
I am not great with tyre sizes and looking for recommendations.
Also what is the standard LWB size? I understand they go well on
a SWB. Thanks folks.

The general reply will be 7.50 x 16's. Most common size. If
you're looking for originality then 6.50 x 16's.

7.5" & 6.5"
Modern metric equivalents are 235R16 & 205R16, 235mm wide and
205mm wide, both wider than the original imperial sizes but
generally lower profile so the rolling radius is about the same
as the imperials.
Generally the 7.50x16 or 235R16 are LWB - 6.50x16 or 205R16 are
SWB, though as you say, many people put the bigger size on SWB
though it does mess up the speedo reading :thumbs:

Excellent I am getting there.
Am I right in thinking then that I would want 16x6.5 Rims for
the 205 tyre?

No, standard LWB 5.5J rims are fine for 205s and 750s.

It varies from manufacturer to manufacturer but if you take the
Cooper Discoverer L/T as an example then the rim width range is
5.5J to 6.5J so it would be fine.

This begs the question what wheels are you intending to fit the
new tyres to? For standard sizes I'd favour seeking out a set of
late Defender rims, part no. RRC507400. I got a set a couple of
weeks back for the lightweight, this type of rim is tubeless
(the only proper rim that is) and mated with a decent quality
7.50R16 great on a series.

I'd be checking the part
number with the seller first but if they're off a 2010 motor
they should be the tubeless variety.

As it goes a set similar to that but looking more "patina'd"
have popped up in my hometown on the old ebay. think il be
having a blast at those...
