       Flash the Fergi
By: lozzaboy Date: November 9, 2013, 2:49 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Whilst I was away getting sand in places you don't want sand in,
an old Ferguson tractor was recovered back to my mums place. It
belonged to a relative on my mums side and stood for years in my
dad's yard when he ran a few small garages, until he moved to
the IoM and it was put into storage at an old airfield along
with the Morris Minor (also came from another of my mums
relatives) that made it back to mine last year, didn't get
chance to get the fergi back as I was called away to the
Olympics and then all the rushed training being brought forwards
for Afghan etc. Been over to see it for the first time in years
and took a few pics, never worked on a tractor so should be
interesting :smilewide: All I plan to do is get it running and
driving and only replace what can't be repaired or missing, so
no paint etc, I do remember it running once years ago, and dad
taking things like the starter off to get converted to 12v, as I
believe they were made for 6v, so at the very least I know I
need a starter and dynamo, and some ht leads, probably a coil
too, and god knows what else :rolleye0012:

       Fergies are great.
       Everything you want is available.
I had to replace the starter on mine. It was stamped 6/49 and
       was 6 volt.
The Fergie had been running a 12 volt battery for the last
thirty years I know of and after 60 something years (half on
twice the voltage) it decided enough was enough. The engine is a
       Vangard (also Triumph 3a etc).
       Hope this helps
       Cheers
       Alan

I think they changed to 12v 1951-1952, looks like a good project
you have your self. Most parts are available but not all parts
fit without altering. Our replacement steering wheel was a
sloppy fit on the shaft and the mud guards didn't fit the
original framework without making alterations to it. I would
advise repairing whatever you can above replacing with new.

My grandad's is a '53 and that is 12 volt (I think). Pick up a
tractor mag Loz and you'll find all the bits you could ever
       want.
Get it registered for my road run next Sept...!! >rock<

I think a lot of the replacement parts are from the TAFE range?
They kind of fit but don't, I replaced the front swinging axle
on 35 with ad replacement one. All I can say is a good job I
have a lathe. Rear wheel bearings, what a nightmare especially
if the pattern ones supplied have the wrong chamfer so they
don't sit correctly against the halfshaft.

Doubtful Kev ...its it the top of a mountain in Wales AND the
owner of the property died intestate,so it all goes to the state
(in fact probably has done already )
Shame as there was this in there too ...
