       Wiring woes

Is there such s thing as a wiring diagram for an 88" 2a FFR that
is being converted to 12 volt with alternator conversion?
we are progressing, I think, but it is very confusing and
slow, and largely guesswork! a diagram would help a lot.
The new loom came from autosparks, ordered to the spec
       mentioned.
Also I,m not sure which side of the engine to mount the new
alternator, bearing in mind that the battery is in between the
       seats,
       Thanks.

while not exactly what you need, there is a certain
standardisation on wire colours and the attached in relation to
lightweights may be helpful, has 2a 12v and 24v for comparison.

No there is not a wiring diagram for the spec that you speak
about, however what needs to be known is did you order a civi
spec wiring loom with alternator conversion or a military 12v
wiring loom or did you order a military 24v wiring loom?
Main differences between the 12v and 24v military would be the
location of the generator / alternator / dynamo (Drivers side
high for the generator compared to passenger side low for the
       alternator / dynamo)
Main differences I can think between the military 12v and the
civilian 12v would be the location of the lighting and ignition
       switch.
There was a harmonisation of colours so that if you knew the
colour then you would now what circuit it serviced, thus you
would know if your wires are in the right place or not! Colours
can be found on this web page here
  HTML http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/colourcodes.htm
There are other differences in the wiring but those are the main
       ones.

Chaps, thanks for your reply's, very helpful.
The loom I ordered was a military spec 12v with alternator
       conversion.
Although I want a mostly civilian type system for ease of
maintenance, I quite fancy retaining the military look, as in
       particularly convoy lights!
       Cheers.

Mine is a 12v 2A lightweight, also converted from 24v.
Alternator is on the nearside. One problem I had was that
Autosparks had missed out a wire between the alternator and the
solenoid. ( sent out as soon as I told them). I also found the
wiring to the wiper was too short by about 18 in. Found out
afterwards that there was originally an extra bit that ran the
extra distance. ( The PO had rewired the thing, all in red,
badly. Mostly the only way to stop it was to pull the low
       tension off the coil...)
Wiring in the convoy light was easy enough, the autosparks loom
has all the cabling. The bummer was having to rebuild the 6 way
switch which was knacked. The PO had bypassed it with a
halfrauds special toggle switch and re-routed the horn to a push
button on the dash. Still not been arsed to fix the choke light
or the fuel gauges but everything else now works ok.
       The diagram I used is...

Thanks very much, that is a really clear diagram, and so much
better than the little letters for colour identification,2
middle aged men squinting through greasy glasses trying to read
them was not a pretty sight!
