Certainly was not aware of the dregs issue......will keep an eye
on that next time. Filling with water while cutting eliminates
or at least reduces most risks of explosion. once cut open you
can thoroughly clean the inside and therfore reduce the risk
further. Next project is a bigger one........may be a BBQ.......

Absolutely wasn't doubting it at all , just surprised ( and
relieved to have survived! )
...Once the water trick has been done and you've opened your
bottle, How would you go about removing traces then ??
..Chucking it on a bonfire and run springs to mind, that'd get
rid of any 'flammmables'...but seriously would be interested to
know a proper way of making them safe...

When a child, fifty, getting on for sixty years ago, we made
'bombs' by stuffing unscientific mixes of weed killer and sugar
into bike handlebars- we were very lucky to survive! I believe
it is true that people become more risk averse with age and I'm
certainly not seeking to lecture anybody here- just pointing out
that there is a high risk factor. Build a big bonfire after
removing the brass valve/ cap thingy. Light a remote corner of
the bonfire, retire to a safe distance and make bloody sure no
innocents venture into the field of play!

Ha....we used to drop a steel tubs into the bottom of a
bonfire.......drop a aerosol can (cap end down) down the tube.
The fire slowly melted the seal under the cap and whoosh you've
created your own mortar!....most dangerous....Empty cans of Pait
also go up well.
However I have had a friend very badly burnt when a can of old
oil exploded on a bonfire. They still suffer with the
scars........be careful what you chuck on a bonfire.
