200tdi inlet

Just come in from the garage, and I feel sick. I was putting the
manifolds back on my engine. Outlet was fine and tightens up
right, the inlet has stripped a fucking thread. On the long
bolts..... Help not sure what to do now. :bleurgh

Repair with a threaded insert or helicoil type kit, goto do this
on my classic camper soon for exhaust.

I dont see why not, however i confess ive not done it before
myself, so someone else may advise better. Ive got hold of
something similar to this which i plan to use on a aircooled
engine:

I think aslong as you got space to get your tools in should be
fine.

Iv managed to borrow a helicoil kit from work. But looking at
the thread sticking out of the inlet manifold it's only about 5
to 10mm long. Now the depth of the hole is a lot deeper and it's
threaded, so I mite try longer bolts first , and hope it
works....... :-?

I repaired a similar thing in a timing case by fitting a
threaded rod in to the remainder of the hole/thread. I locked 2
nuts together and wound it right to the bottom of the hole it
had a good splash of high strength red stud lock on it also, for
me this worked fine. The advantage being that the threaded rod
used all of the remaining good thread right to the bottom of the
hole.
I your case you will have to check you can actually get the
manifolds on and off (or work around it) if you go with a fixed
stud rather than a bolt.
Another thought is you could open it up from M8 and re tap it at
M10? should be enough meat to allow this.
