Advice on 2.25L engine repair

Engine has low compression, 100psi on 3 and one pot about 96psi
across. Was considering a total reco, rebored engine, pistons,
rings, crank bearings etc. Will be expensive.
Theres no other major issues with the engine.
Is it worth taking the head off , sump off remove big end
bearings and take the pistons out, hone the pots, and re-ring
them and re-assemble? Or is the pots usually worn out
(excessive taper)?
Has anyone been through this procedure? Donk

If you are up for doing the recon yourself then you can inspect
/ measure / gauge each component before deciding whether to go
for the whole hog rebore / regrind or just to freshen up rings /
bearings, etc. That will be more cost effective than blindly
replacing everything.
You could pick up a spare 2.25P to drop in and keep you on the
road while reworking your unit.

Until you get it in bits you won't know, but only an hour to get
the head off and look.
Unlikely the bores will be any good at that compression, but you
may be lucky
If the bores are stepped, re ringing is a risky move, you could
well break a ring against the bores, which will likely be a
write off, of the engine should it happen - that said, did it if
needs really must
