Damn Ebay - 1964 Series IIA SWB
By: ChrisChallis Date: October 19, 2013, 8:58 am
---------------------------------------------------------
After seeing a very tidy series II on Ebay that I liked the look
of, but was advertised for £12000! I though to myself, how hard
can it be to build a replica... and then I forgot about it.
A month or so later an advert appears on Ebay for two projects,
I was not looking for something anytime soon, however a mate was
hankering after a series. Long story short I ended up with a
various bits and a V5 that make up a series IIA.
So pictures.

The chassis had seen better days, the steering relay had been
coated in grease and was easily removed.

In the parts bin (literally a bin) the usual smiths round heater
and one of these - anyone know if this is an LR unit?
So the long term plan is re-chassis my series III (again) and
use the replacement chassis currently under my series III on
this series IIA. The lights are currently in the wings, so I
plan to make my own replacement panels. I will need to source a
replacement bulkhead and front panel. The rear tub is going to
be rebuilt with new outer skins. Hopefully one day it will be in
deep bronze green with a soft top.
It came with a number of little gems are little use to me, MAP
hubs and a hand throttle, will swap for bulkhead, rad panel,
chassis.... ;)
Plenty to do, the plan is to have this ticking over in the
background, a rainy Saturday project.
