Forgot all about this until looking through some images for work
and found these, which reminded me...
With regards to our conversation at LATP, "not having any
indicators on the back of your series one"
here's a simple wiring diagram to double function your brake
light bulbs using four relays (yank style)
Ok on pre '60 cars to have red rear flashers (and white flashers
       on the front)
       posted here for interest
       Ken.

       Cheers Ken
I was just thinking about this yesterday, if I get chance I
might have a look at wiring tomorrow ;-)

you can also buy a replacement indicator stalk that does it all
for you, just connect up the indicator and brake light wires.
hotrod boys use them, look similar (ish) to the tex-magna unit

shows wiring for 7 wire switch.
much easier than faffing around with relays

I've just re found this thread. Thanks for the info Niteram (and
Ken). I've just got to shake off the CBA syndrome and do
something about it! I will let you know how I get on. :smile1

It's actually a bit after 1960, from the testers manual:
Vehicles first used before 1 September 1965 - Direction
indicators may be incorporated with stop lamps, or combined with
       side or rear lamps.
