Fuel filter

I have a fuel filter that looks like theres no fuel in it. When
I pulled the fuel hose off at the carb a pressurised spurt of
fuel came out which I thought is probably right.
Is the fuel filter supposed to be full of fuel or at least have
some fuel in it? Could that indicate a prob with the fuel pump?
Never really looked at the fuel pumps, there is a lever there,
The fuel pump bowl is full of fuel. Donk

If petrol came out under pressure, your pump and bowl filter are
doing their job and ought to be OK. But I'd have thought there
would have been some in the in-line filter, as they usually sit
at an angle which retains some in the chamber and the whole idea
of the transparent case is to observe the colour of the element.
Considering you have other issues (dizzy, carb, etc), I'd try
doing away with the in-line filter and see if it improves things
a little. I doubt it will completely solve the problems, as if
the draw on the fuel isn't strong enough to pull through paper
what has been pumped forward by cam-lever action, I'd have
thought you either have a blockage in the carb or adv/ret is
badly set. But it may deliver a better fund of petrol on-which
to base your mixture settings.
I've never run with supplementary in-line filters, as the bowl
and gauze has always seemed sufficient. So why put a potential
obstruction further down the line?

Yep that's a fair summation of the fuel delivery, Ill give the
filter the flick. Its on because it came in the box. Im running
the oil bath air filter and the fuel is generally good. with
thanks donk

Assuming it is the in line filter it's probably best to change
it unless you know it to be 100% OK. I once had real problems
with loss of power and it was simply down to in line filter not
working, fixed with a couple of quid filter
