Rubber or leather, what's your preference?

I am of course referring to Swivel Housing Gaiters.
I was going for leather, but then I noticed there's rubber ones.
Just wondered if people had used the rubber ones?

Two of my series 3's have been leathered up by the PO's and
swivels have been tip-top on both motors. The third one had no
gaiters and swivels are fucked. I'd vouchsafe towards leather.
Pre-smeared in vaseline, I beleive is recommended. :o

I sold off a couple of axles on ebay a year or two ago and the
front swivels were still nice and shiney when the new owner came
to collect and inspect. They had leather covers on which were a
bit shot, as they had been sat for a few years, but had been on
since 1974. I think rubber will crack and split after time...

Leather kept nice and supple with regular hand applications of
vaseline works for me ;D ;)

Leather - the only problem of course if buying two large tubs of
vaseline from Boots to lubricate them prior to fitting :-[
