Hi
New to the forum and world of Landys - looking to buy either a
diesel Series 2a or a Series 3 pre 1980 (Here in ROI pre 1980
is cheaper tax €56 and no NCT required). Only need a vehicle for
local runs eg to the beach with the dog. Like the idea of being
able to do my own maintenance again.
Any tips on what to look out for welcomed.
Rick

Welcome to the forum, Rick.
There are some on here who reckon the S2A is better built than
the S3 but you'll probably find S2A rarer and more expensive.
Both are great vehicles.
The usual advice is to go for the best you can find, regardless
of age, mileage etc. It's advanced chassis rot which usually
kills them or puts them beyond the repair capabilities of the
ordinary owner (like me). Everything else can be unbolted and
replaced.
With no NCT on pre 1980 cars, you won't have had the benefit of
even rudimentary safety checks having been done, so careful
examination needed.
Good luck.

How do, where about are you in the Emerald Isle?
Was over there in august this year visiting friends. We only saw
5 series motors in the week and 2000 miles we were there. Had a
look in the ROI version of auto trader/add mag and only spied 1
series motor :2mo5pow:
You may be better trying to pick a motor up in blightyw and
import it?
Good hunting.

Cheers for the welcomes and advice - yes, I have found that not
many are available in ROI especially whre I'm based out in the
wild west of North Co Mayo so I am indeed also looking in
blighty.
